When I went to replace the oil sender on my 40 the new one was difficult to start to thread. I did'nt want to cross thread it so I took it back to the auto part store. The parts guy told me that they use pipe type threads (tapered) on oil senders and it would be hard to start but to just keep turning it. Any truth to this. I put the old one back for now. Thanks

Yes, the threads are NPT pipe thread. They are tapered, so if anything, they should be easy to start and get harder to turn as you tighten it. You don't want to run teflon tape sealer on this sender as it has to have a good ground. Tapered threads are supposed to seal themselves.

The one you bought was probably american standard pipe thread and the threads in your block are metric, close but not the same, you make the call. I added a pressure gauge to my cruiser along with the stock indicator and threaded a brass nipple into the block and "T"ed the two devices to the block. Or you can retap the hole American standard pipe like your sender.
[Good Luck!

Thanks for both replys. I will try to obtain the oem sender so that I will not have to tap the block.
