I am in need of recomendations for the exhaust size that I should run for a 460. The engine is a 550hp crate motor direct from ford. It has headman headers and an 850 CFM carb from edelbrock. Would dual 3" with flowmasters be to large for a motor of this size?

My 460FI has a 3" pipe to a Flowmaster SIDO with 2.5" outs and is good. I still have the CAT too. That is what Ramchargers recommended, ask a performance shop. If you got the motor from Ford, ask them too.

I would either run a single 3.5 inch set-up, or run a dual 2.5 inch. Maximize your engines torque and if you run duals, fab in a crossover pipe.

yeah run 2.5" with a set of headers and run an X or H pipe, would sound nice into a set of flowmaster 1 chambers

I'd run 3" dual with a 3" crossover to two 3" Edelbrock 304 mufflers. If this is too load for you I would run 3" tailpipes out the back (2 1/2" if you want it quieter). I'm not sure if the 304's come in 3" diameter in and out but if they don't you will be fine with the 2 1/2" size.

for 550 hp....you need dual 3 inch or a single 4 inch....anything smaller will take away top end

Dual 3 inch with an x-pipe and flowmasters would be the way to go. It's not like you have a four cylinder and are trying to maximize your low end torque. Big blocks already have low end torque.

What size colectors do the Heddman come with? I just installed a set of The Heddamn Elite ceramic coated headers on my 429 and they came with the 2 1/2" reducers. I have an h Pipe ready to go on and going to take it monday to have dual 2 1/2 inch pipes and flowmasters put on. Let us know how it does.

I would run 3" duals. I have ran 2.5" and 3" duals. On my 514 the 2.5"s took away some power compared to my 3" duals, on the top end. It sucked, run the 3" duals or a big single.
