Just picked up a Hobart Handler 135.
Came with 1lb of 0.030 flux core wire.
Gonna buy a 10lb spool.
Can i run 0.035 wire. :rasta:
I know we are only talking about a difference of .005.

I think as long as i have the right size tip it'll be fine.
See any probs with it???

The wire size you are interested in is .035" not 0.35"

.35 is almost 3/8" Dia :D

the diff between .035 and .030 is not much but it makes a diff. You can use it with you Hobart. I just did the same thing today. I bought a 2# flux core spool and a few .035 tips.:usa:

Make sure your feed rolls have grooves for the .035 wire and your liner can handle the larger size. It should be ok though. :p

As anthony said make sure the liner is the right size. I am not sure on the hobart but on my lincoln i had a skinner liner and ran .035 wire in it for a while then it jammed up and had to get a new liner ($12.00 or so) I would just call the local welding shop and see what they have to say about it.

If you aren't using gas it's not MIG welding. Praxair seems to be the cheapest around here for gas. If you get gas you'll never use that flux crap again, unless maybe it's windy out.

Hey now I use Flux core wire :flipoff2: ....Corse it's in combination with the gas. Its called Dual Shield. Talk about bad ass smooth welds. I will almost never run hard wire on my thick steel jobs again. The dual shield only comes in .045 at the smallest that I have found, but man does it fill an 1/8" gap and penatrate like there is no tommorow. :D

Yes the .035 will be fine in the Hobo welder. Just get the right tips and as mentioned above go hard wire you will like it in all places except windy areas.

I've welded with gas many times. In fact most of the welding i have done has been with gas. (Borrowing friends welders)
This is my first time with flux core.
When i get a little more $$$ i'll get a tank, but right now this is working fine for me.

Clifton - you going to the Jamboree?

You have to make sure that your liner will handle the .035 wire. My welder originally came with .030 liner. I purchased the .035 liner so that it would allow me to run the .035 flux core.

I have the peice of shit Hobart 135, and I use .035 in mine, but every so often it gets all jammed up at the begining of the liner right past the feed rollers, makes me real mad! They say it can run .035, but it does'nt run as smooth as .030.

The .005 difference is significant. Because the cross section depends on the square of the radius, the .035 puts down 36% more metal for the same wire feed speed.

Flux core wire definatly has it's place.
I have better luck welding out of position with the flux core wire.

Don't forget to swap the polarity when you get your gas bottle hooked up.

hey Eric-

that's the key- spend the buck's for the right size liner and tips. it will assure ya that things will work properly.

Also, ya need to get a good quality nozzle dip or spray, especialy with the flux core. They splatter alot more than a gas setup.

If you do go for the gas shield, you'll probably want to use 0.023 solid wire w/ the little machine- that'll give ya a better burn.

I'm gonna buy some flux core for my Lincoln 170- I'm tried of fighting the wind up here. It's an easy swap over.

Q.

Are you using CO2 for your on board air? If so, you already have a tank, and probably a regulator for a gas set up------ check it out!

I tried the .035 in my HH 135, it ran it OK, but I went back to the .030 because it carries it alot easier, and I think it makes better welds with this little machine.
