OK, I've got 36K on my 05 Dodge Dually and am gonna neet new tread soon.
It came with General somthing-or-others tires.
235/80-17

Anyone know what I can go to in a good MT and still fit the Dually OK.

My buddy runs the 255/?/16's BFG MT's on his 01 Dually and they fit/work great, what would the equivilant be in the 17.

I run enough mud/snow that I don't want to keep street tread pattern but don't want to lose towing capacity either.

I know most tire stores won't install "non-stock" sizes on a dually but If they will work I will get it done somehow.

Suggestions Please

Stores should install "non-stock" tires as long as they are the proper load ratings. Can't help with the conversion for 17's....

i saw a guy the other day with 285/70/17s on his stock 05
they seemed to fit fine, a litle wider but about the same height as our stock tires

I know the newer Ford's have 245 with 17" tires, I think they are 75 ratio..

The first number (235, 255, 285) is always the width of the tire in millimeters. Divide it by 25.4 for inches, so 235/25.4 = 9.25". For this number it does not matter what rim size it's for.......255 is always 255, etc...

The next number is the aspect ratio, and this is what tells you the height and is dependent on both the width and rim diameter. For a 235/80R17........thats an 80% aspect ratio, or .80. 235 x .80 = 188 mm sidewall height. Divide by 25.4 for inches, 188 / 25.4 = 7.4". Then times two as you have the sidewall height on both sides of the rim (upper and lower), then add the rim diameter..........7.4 x 2 = 14.8" plus 17 = 31.8" tall tires. Equivalent size is about a 32x9 R 17

Your buddy should have 255/85R16 tires. These are about a 33x10 R 16

That eqivalent size for a 17" rims would be a 255/80R17.
