Will it bolt right up to the older '84 transfer case, or do you need a transfer case that came with a W56?
Are the clutches the same?
Anyone in CA have either a G52 or a '85-'91 W56 they want to sell? Buddy will come from Visalia, can pick up anywhere between LA and Sac.
Thanks!

The EFI one would be prefered, if it bolts up to the '84 t-case.

I HAD one of these when I came down to pick up the cab! I wish that I would have know. :( Unfortunately it is sold now.
Marlin and Centerforce show the same part numbers for the G-52 and W-56 clutches and according to Advance Adapters (http://www.advanceadapters.com/acrobat/toytcchart.pdf) the transfer case should be the same too.

the tranny's a direct fit to teh motor, and the t-case shifter linka ge is different, teh G52 t case load's from teh back of the tranny, teh W56 loads from teh top of the t-case
they also interchange crossmembers perfectly
i have an 84 G52 in my 86 TURBO and it fit's perfect (don't ask why)

Couldn't quite remember about the shift linkage, that's right. So the easiest way for him to use an EFI tranny would be to find one with a t-case already attached.

Marlin told me (in one of his hour long phone sessions :D ) that the turbo trucks were particular in that if they came with a bench seat they had the shifter through the back of the transmission (so it would be farther forward) and if they came equipped with buckets they shift lever came out of the top of the transfer case. Wierd, huh?

We will be replacing a '89 W56 out of an EFI as soon as we get the R151F and bell housing. Presently the W56 is in a '85. Went in with no problems.
The W56 is rebuilt with a couple of thousnad miles on it. It is in perfect condition.
$ 450.00 plus shipping if you want it. The area code is 95404.

My buddy may be interested in that one, but he'll have to find a top-shifting t-case too, since his '84 carb is a front-shifter.

Not really. Here is what one looks like from the top.
