so i spend all day along with rockbound, fabbing up my hydro assist....(pics later) i get her all done, take it for a spin.... pull up against a cement post and just turn the wheels, no resistance at all.... this is sweet..... SO i decide to put my drivers tire up on rockbounds tire.... no biggy, done it many of times...wanted to check my clearance aff the brackets for the hydro. SO im about to pop up on the tire................. BAAAAM, im like wtf? must be a hub, cant be the ctm or warn shafts.... so i pull the hub off, it looks fine, but i put a new one on.... wheel doest drive? wtf? i jack the rear end up with noth front hubs locked.... i drive off the jack... i unlock the right side, and my rear tires are in air spinning front driver just sitting there.... im like wtf? the hubs are good, the stub is good, the ctm good, the inner axles good... WTF! so i tear the entire housing apart, pull the third member out........... im not sure but i think i blew out my gears on the detroit........... gonna tear into it on monday, if it is the detroit, whos got the best price on em for the hp nine? i guess after last years 6 totally grenanded inner axles and ujoints, the detroit was stressed to this point.... arrrrgghhhhh cant i get a fawkin break!

so far lookin at the carrier, the gears are perfect.... could the big spring of broken? never been in a detroit???? called everyone i know, even dimitri, he said his buddy has blown out the gears in the detroit..... gues i wont know that untill i pull it apart....

ps, dimitri, thanks for the help.........

Bummer deal dude.:(

FYI, there are a few 9" detroits on Ebay right now.

The CHP uses the regular 9" carrier with special 8.8 gears right?

A guy in the Toy section blew gears on a detroit not to long ago. Called detroit and they gave him shit about ordering parts.

He ended up having to go through Randys I believe or something and ended up paying a left nut for the part, wishing he had just bought a mini spool or ANOTHER detroit or soemthing.

Cant seem to find the post buy maybe youll have more luck than me.

Jeez,
that sucks.... Least your ram is workin', right? :).

Another thing is, at least you got the breakage out of the way now. Better in the driveway than on the course.

I'm tryin' to make you feel better, fawker. Now fix it and kick back like Hannibal from the A-Team, "I love it when a plan comes together." :D

Yeah if you need a hand, let me know. I'd probably get in the way, or bust another nut trying to pick your tires up, but that's alright :flipoff2:

I broke the housing on a detroit rear toy carrier. just downshifted at like 3k and POP. The driveline turned but no tire movement. Put it 4wd went to work, went to the shop. Showed them, We all figured a pinion. Well the shop wanted to charge me to tear it down so I tore it down. I could jackmup the ass end and spinn the tires by hand but when the motor tried to spin it it didn't go. Long story short :D It was the housing where the ring gear bolts on. Broke clean in half. It was just under a year old, got it warenteed but it took fawkin forever. what was with yours? pix?

there is no visual signs from it sitting in the third member, i am thinkin something with the spring or the actual gears that ingage and disengage........ il know tomorrow when i tear it apart..... in the mean time, i got a 31 spline spool on the way will be here by 11am

Dude, Its about time something other than u joints and shafts bust.

This might be a good thing that you nuked it before the big test.

Spool in your rear. DETROIT in the front. This is a big FAWKING advantage to having your rear ends. :D nice and easy swap.

So did the spray paint get into your front end and fawk your Detroit? :p Maybee the body shop that painted your jeep could pay for the damage? Warranty's :p

Good luck rob.

I've seen a Toy 8" and a D44 Detriot, both stripped off all the teeth on one of the side gears. The D44 gear was around $170.

now that you have hydro assist steering, ctm's, and warn axles, I'd just run a spool anyway, simple, easy, and no gears to break! If I were you I'd just fix the Detroit and sell it.

Ummm... I not 100% sure but I think that the HP nine uses a 8.8 inch carrier. I'm sure that it is the 8.8inch ring gear so I would think the same for the carrier.

I really hope that I am wrong for your sake.

Good luck man.
