When I first start up the truck it idles a little higher then 2000 RPM. While I think this is pretty high keep in mind it's about 30 degrees out when it first starts up. Takes about 5 min to go down to the normal idle of 1000RPM. My question is is this too high? If so how can I adjust it? I have an 87 Nissan hardbody 4x4 with the V6 in it. Thanks.

sounds a little high. 1000 is too high for idle, should be closer to 750. No idea how to adjust it though.

Try pulling codes from the computer. I have never done it with the onboard computer, just diagnostic machines. I think the haynes manuals tell you how.

Does the V6 have the wax choke like the 4 cylinder? That was my problem in my 87 with the z24. Sounds like the same symptoms.

Is it cold outside,if it is this is called cold-idle,it will idle high until the engine build's some heat and then will idle back down to normal:)
