Pulled the guts out of my 14 bolt for welding last night. When I pulled it apart there were not any of the four bent spring washers on the spider gears. Do I need these if I am welding up the gears into a ball???
There is still gear marking compound on the gears in spots so I am assuming that the rear was serviced not too many miles ago although I don't know the history as it has been passed around a fair bit before me. I don't see any bits of washer anywhere.

no need for the thrust washers if the gears dont spin! they would melt with the heat anyway.

some ppl use latex paint for gear marking compound, it doesnt really go away.
