: FINISHED the chopsawed zuk
zukstur 03-31-2002, 06:37 AM finished the zuk up on thursday night at midnight so i did get two days of moab wheeling in. did pritchet canyon the first day. almost made it up rocker nocker the first time but had gained air presure through out the morning and didnt know it. went from 5 to 9 lbs in a couple of hours due to the heat. the zuk did good on the rock pile. drove right up it on the first try. it doesnt look like much but 99% of the rigs have to be winched up or pulled. that was probably the only time i will ever make it. The next day we did lower helldarodeo and then only got to do the first obstical on upper.to manny rigs and to little light left so we pulled out of the trail. got alittle rock damage there. I'll send some pics to dangerdan to see if he will post them for me. got to wheel with brent from ogdon UT who has a cool side kick got a pic of him hung up on a rock on upper.
Tusker 03-31-2002, 07:21 AM Let's see them pics
scwafish 03-31-2002, 07:35 AM That was incredibly fast...how many hours a day were you working on that rig to get it done? PICS!!!!

zukstur 03-31-2002, 08:59 AM the last week I worked from 8am to some times 2 in the morning to get it done . On the last week a few frends helped out so i could get it finished by easter. Tod Beanland and Eric Guynes did the rear ends with lockers and gears. Ernie and Riley Williams and Trent Daves helped with all around wrenching on what ever needed done. Rick Gersch put some 4;1 gears in the transfercase. Good Freinds who like to wheel made it all possible that I could finish in time. I still need the 6:1 gears and change my bump stops fro better articulation. The automatic , in my opinion is the only way to go. With 4.56 gears 4.1 case and 37's the zuk had a lot af power to do just about anything i could through at it . The 6.1 will make it a great zuk. on the highway i could cruise 65 with no problem. It looks like it sits low but I have 20 inches of clearence and I only drug on a couple of rocks.
squirrelman83 03-31-2002, 09:03 AM Looks awesome. Great work! Looks like ya forgot to make some rocksliders, though, huh? :D ~Steve
spencurai 03-31-2002, 09:17 AM IMO the only place you need tons of ground clearence is when boulder crawling. if you do moab as much as it looks like you do, you know you need some ground clearence and a ver low center of gravity. that is the perfect heigth for any zuk to wheel in the four corners area!!
SeaBass44 03-31-2002, 11:56 AM very nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the pics don't do the rig justice, that is some beautiful work!!! I wish I coulda done more trails w/ya but it was really good to meet you and I appreciate your help on upper Heldarado~(p.s. it's Brett but that's ok I've been called worse)
scwafish 03-31-2002, 07:24 PM Cool. That came out pretty dang nice. That kick is also pretty sweet.
:D Damn nice loking rig,,gr8 job :D
zukstur 03-31-2002, 10:00 PM I didnt have the time to do the rock gards and I thought that with the rear steering i wouldnt need it. but i didnt have the rear stearing working yet so thats what i get for thinking.
cooljosh 03-31-2002, 11:05 PM Hey new guy here been wheeling for two years, i have a 86 zuk or whats left of a zuk, Zuksturs zuk is bad i wheeled with him this week end in moab, the pictures dont do it justice its very nice and seems to work well.
zukstur 04-02-2002, 06:22 AM thanks dan for posting the pics. It looks like i need to buy you a stack of pancakes for post them.

nice zuk!!! ok now a couple of q's.
-what is the motor and tranny combo are you running?
-what is the wheelbase?
thanks! again, nice zuk!!!
zukstur 04-04-2002, 06:08 AM The motor is a 95 tracker 1.6/ 16v with the compleat wiring harness through out the whole zuk.
The tranny is an automatic three speed Gm 180 hydro glide out of an 80's chevey chevett. To do this combo you need the bell housing, flywheel, and torque converter from a kick/tracker automatic. it bolts right up to the tranny. the newer 180's that are in the kick/trackers are an electronic shift, so you have to have the wireing harness out of the doner to make the auto work properly.
Drive line: you need the drive line out of the chevett because of the splines on the tranny. I just cut the chevett drive line at the length needed and welded the zuk flange on it.
wheel base is 100", gears are 4:56, 4:1 case, tires are 37" and I went any where I wanted to go with pleanty of power, for most wheelers this combo will work great but it will be much better when i get my 6:1 gears from Dave.
After wheeling for years with a stick shift and now having an automatic I wont go back.
High5 04-04-2002, 06:25 AM thanks. i was asking because i have a buddy who wants to put an auto in his zuk. he already runs a 1.6 so your swap might just work. i'll give him this info. also i agree with you on the auto. i just swapped to an auto this year and i love it! i was worried that i wouldn't but those fears are gone! afain you have a sweet ride. i love built sami's
That's the best looking Suzuki I've seen.
What are you running for axles?

Funny... what a small world. I was next in line right behind you on upper Helldorado in the big green "eye-sore" cruiser. Very cool Zuk. I couldn't figure out why you weren't using your rear-steering... you answered that question. :D It looked like you could of used a bit more gearing coming out of that last part of the first obstacle... damn you were wedged.
Shrock 04-04-2002, 02:01 PM Very Sweet!
zukstur 04-04-2002, 08:10 PM I should have held to the right on the rock but my spotter thought that the other side was better and i got wedged in the bottom while crossing over. it wont happen next time because i"ll have the rear steering working . I have to do some tweaking on the suspension to get some more articulation, my bump stops were set to close so no biggy. but for the first time out it did great. I've got to get on the stick and get the bugs out so its ready to go on the runs with Chris, Eric and oil burner in Moab on the 19th and 20th.
To answer syko Q.
the front axel is out of a 74 jeep quadratrac (dana30)
the rear is out of an early bronco front (dana44) for the rear steering.

with the auto tranny you will have to cut the tunnel out wider
