Need some BEEF for your front axle?

The Defelice Offroad Innovations front axle truss is built for 1979 thru 1985 Toyota truck and 4runner front axles. This axle truss is not only designed to strengthen but to also protect the front axle and differential from damage. The axle truss also reinforces the steering stops that are usually bent if your vehicle has seen much off-road use. Built from 3/16-inch thick plate steel and DOM tubing this truss provides superior front axle performance to keep you on the trial. The materials are laser cut for quality and to make sure each part fits perfectly.

The axle truss can be fully installed without removing the axle from the vehicle although we recommend having the axle out of the vehicle for ease of installation.

You must have relocated steering brackets and hardware (i.e. high steer) to be able to install this axle truss.

We are working on another axle truss for the top of the axle. I will post pics as soon as I finish the first proto. -Matt Defelice

Nice looking product but it looks like you forgot to add holes for the U-bolts..... :flipoff2: Also thats a lot of welding for aToyota axle!

how are you preventing the housing from warping when welding these on?

Is the truss cut in such a way to preload it?

There are 2 different versions of this truss. One is designed for axles using u bolts as seen on the painted axle. The other is for applications not requiring u bolts (link styles).

We use a welding sequence starting at the diff. then welding the steering stops and progressing back towards the diff. That way the truss keeps the axle from warping. Warping has been held to less than .030. But yea if you laid a monster bead across this from side to side you could warp it pretty bad. We will have installation instructions on the website in the next couple weeks.-Matt

Nice looking product!!! Does it fit tight all the way, that is where the warping comes from if you have to fill gaps. I still would not weld it up with a jig bar set-up that is just to much welding in my opinion!!!!:grinpimp:

Yeah How Do You Get Oil In It? And Whats Stopping All Kinds Of Crap From Getting In That Hole?and What If Water Gets In There And Freezes And Expands? AND HOW DO YOU GET THAT PLUG OUT OF THE FRONT OF THE DIFF COVER? AND HOW DO YOU START THE PLUG TO PUT IT BACK IN WITHOUT CROSS THREADING?

dude, seriously...

that hole is for the fill plug...you can use a pump on the end of a gear oil bottle and pump it in...use a funnel with a flexible hose at the end to get oil in...or just use your brain for somethin other than a hat rack.

That hole might be a few inches deep...if mud gets in there, wash it out...its called normal maintenance.

You think water is going to stay in that hole, and fill it completely while driving?? You might have some small amounts of sitting water, but you know water does evaporate...its not like your going to drive through a river and as soon as you come out its so cold outside that there is a cylinder of ice in that hole:shaking:

How do you get the plug out??? Thats a tough one....wait wait wait use an extension for you socket wrench:idea:

Have you ever changed out spark plugs, probably not...but anyway...you can start a bolt on the end of a socket without cross threading its not that hard.

sorry, i don't know the vendor...but it seems like a nice product, but this post by yotapower was just ridiculous...

Turn off the caps lock.

Nice looking truss, by the way.

The hole has a sleeved peice of DOM so it keeps the water from getting into the truss. The truss is water tight. I think i would be more worried about smashing my diff cover on a rock rather than water freezing in that hole.just my opinion.

That pretty slick. Since my axle is bent to heck I might have to score one of these.

Any chance getting a peice on the top of the diff. Something stoudt enough top mount a hyro assist ram on that ties in to the truss. Be a nice option to have with it especially if it something that can be added on.

Hate to rain on the parade but this brace does not add much strenght in the right areas. Yes, the diff cover plate is good, as are the strenghened steering stops. If you want to keep the front tube from bending, you need trussing on the top / bottoms - especially the RH side. You also need to address strengthening the necked down ball-to-tube area.

Matt Defelice

That's true, but it does add some strength up and down. The main goal of a truss like this is to keep it from bending forward and aft. Being the lucky owner of a bent Toy axle any strength is useful. My axle is bent both ways and my steering stops are mangled, so this was the area i worked on first. In the works are a top truss that incoporates a raised spring pad (so it's the same height as the passenger side) and it runs to the end of the axle. As for the "neck down ball to tube areas" I have gussets available for that as well. I'll keep you posted. Good observation by the way. I thought for a peice that does 3 things at once it was a good product and a place to start. -Matt

so what do you recomend? Knowing that you jump the piss outa your rig I would apreciate your input. If someone were to truss a leafsprung rear axle for all around trail duty do what would be most effective for keeping the housing strait? On the top of the axle going out to the spring perches or on the backside of the axle similar to how the truss pictured is designed?

I saw a yota running this axle truss at the badlands and he said it was a direct fit and couldn't be more happy with the beef. He said he bent the original housing and purchased longfields, a new housing and this axle truss for the rebuild.....he said it has worked flawlessly for years now.
