My '02 DRZ decided it wanted some serious attention last weekend. I went for a short ride into town to hit the bank and the gas station and on the way back home it died at a stop sign. It was hard to start and took a few seconds to restart. So after I got it restarted I look behind to see if I was holding up traffic or not only to see a huge blue plume emanating from the tail pipe. I limped it up the road and home filling the canyon with smoke the whole way.

The thing doesn't smoke too bad until it gets about about 3k then it just starts puking. It doesn't seem to have lost compression so I'm thinking a high pressure seal or something has gone bad. I don't have time to tear it down right now so I just bought an FZR 600 to ride around until I can see what went south.

Have a look see. They guy threw in a nice pocket bike for an extra C note too!!! :D :smokin:

Do you have the acct in there still? If so its a ticking time bomb. Have you seen the spring that holds the tension on the cam chain? It looks like its from a ball point pen.

I'd check it out before you ride it anymore, if its the cam and chain going it would be a big uh oh sometime soon.

Tensioner replaced with 04 model I think. It still runs with no cam chain noise it just started smoking after it died. I will not be able to throw a gernade at the engine for a while. So it will sit until I can get to it.

I'll be sure to post what I find in there.

Hey DW, it will most likely resemble my drunken attempt at riding the Z50 backwards in the street in front of your old house. Remember?

I think I will just take it to work and keep it in my cube for lunch time parking lot racing. :D ;)
