Only issue I have so far is that when I hit a dip at even a slow speed the pass. side coil will want to pop out, and ends up bowing severely. It bows to the point where the bronco will lean to one side and the coil will rub on the tire.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Burl Swift 02-02-2006, 09:16 AM I thought your were going with a 60?
Everyone is SAS'ing now, holy crap.
Looks nice. How did you mod your engine crossmember? Did you just shave it down?
BrokeCuzWheelin 02-02-2006, 11:37 AM Use a small u-bolt or metal strap to hold the back of the top coil to the coil bucket so that the top coil of the spring is held in by both sides. Get what I'm saying? Kinda hard to explain without a pic. Someone over on fullsizebronco.com has a pic that shows what I'm talking about. You might want to search over there.
You also might want to look into what kind of angle your lower coil mounts are at because it they aren't level at ride height, the springs will bow.

I have noticed the passsenger side radius arm (the one in which the coil will bow out) is pulled a bit too far back. I need to unscrew the heim a bit to push the axle forward and make it level.
Although, if that doesn't fix it, I bet your idea will, thanks for the tip!

Smart move!
Looks good!

I see, cool.
Let me ask you, were your coils bowing out really bad as well? Did this ubolt fix the problem?
mad_boi 02-02-2006, 05:00 PM You running any bump stops? That should help too.

Since I don't really feel like typing a lot, here's a copy and paste of the reply I made once to the same question -
Here is my truck now -

Those are 6in lift Deaver (Superflex) springs
My springs used to bow VERY bad. They were bowing due to 2 reasons.
1 - The bottom spring mount need to be level and parallel to the top spring mount at ride height. Also make sure that the bottom spring mount is indexed so the spring makes contact with it the entire way around. This pic is not my truck but kinda explains what I mean about the mount being indexed properly-
http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/257739/fullsize/P1010060.JPG
2 - I made an extra strap to hold the top of the spring in place. I don't have any pics of it but it is basically like the factory strap on the front side of the top coil but holds the backside of the coil. I used a strip of 1/8in flat stock and bent it to fit over the coil tight then drilled some holes and bolted it in. Others on here have just used small u-bolts. The extra strap just hold the spring in so it doesn't bow out and hit the tire when it's compressed.
Here are some more pics that may help -
Before I fixed the spring bow -

New spring mounts that sit level -

Notice in this pic how the end of the spring is tight against the spring bucket and the spring makes contact with the bucket a full 360*.

Jrod-13 02-02-2006, 09:46 PM mine bow really bad too... I tried shimming the uppers some, it helped..
My "temp" fix(thats been there way for over a year) was a cable on the drivers coil, to hold it from bowing forward and out.... Looks ghetto, but works..
the REAL issue with the SAS though is the upper coil buckets, they are tapere up top for the way a TTB coil is designed, SA coils are flat on top, thus the they dont fit for shit in 80+ upper coil buckets..
i plan on making new uppers to fix the problem on mine.

I see, I use stock 78 coil buckets which are flat, and a 7* shim on the lower coil bucket. This causes the coil to be pretty straight, however they still bow a little. Do your coils pop out at all?
crackhead93 02-04-2006, 01:14 AM I just finished my SAS on my 93 as well.. I went Superflex coild on a D44.. How tall are you at the top of the fender opening?? Im right at 41".. I think i may drop the coil buckets (79 Bonco) a bit.. Not real sure yet..

yes, I popped one out this summer, while beating reall hard, and then once again, this fall, for no aparent reason...
Both times it was the passanger side, which has no issue with bowing, and NOT the drivers side which bows pretty good, and has a cable attached to it to conrol it.

That is odd, my passenger side is the only one that bows as well. Did you say you have two retaining straps on the upper coil bucket?
