Anyone out there have any thoughts on inverter welders? Are they a good option for dc stick and scratch start tig? How many amps do I need to tig weld roll cage tubing of say 0.150 thickness?

They work quite well and will save you allot of weight. To weld .150 go with a 140 or better min. If you scratch start the tig, use a piece of copper next to what you are welding so that you don't fowl the tip.

I've used a Thermadyne 110 scratch start TIG. I used it mostly for small, quick jobs, but I loved it.

Hey Kevin. I am planning on doing a metal working class this summer. Would you be willing to help teach me some welding and tube bending? Or rather taking a look at shit that i do and telling me how it can be better. I am gonna start dicking around with my ARC and see what I can do with it.

That's cool. Nothing says victory quite like a knock out or tap out.

What's that, you say you weren't tapping? Ok then let's go again!
