: Opinions on what to replace/rebuild sb 350 in 95 suburban with

Not now, but I'm trying to plan for the future/look for deals on whatever the best route would be for a new/rebuilt/built engine to replace the current stock TBI 350 in my 95 suburban. Value and reliability are two top concerns. A little bit more power than stock would also be good, mostly for towing in hilly areas and something thats not incredibly hard to install or retrofit would be nice also. Thoughts on the best route for swaps?

gimme something...junkyard TBI 350 w/ lower miles, rebuild this one, Vortec 350 from junk yard, crate engine, the list of options goes on but I don't know which one would suit me best...

if your going to do a full rebuild/overhaul, you could deck the block for a little higher compression (very low 9s), put in either a 355 or 383 (355 doen't need to be clearanced), those vortec heads flow very well already, give it a mild cam and you should be very happy. Since you are towing in hills, I would make sure you have a tranny cooler and I would consider an oil cooler, and a 185 thermostat if you don't have that already.

95 was just the plane ole TBI 350...Vortec was the 96-up 350. I'm aiming to do this at the end of the summer so I'm just hoping to get a goal in mind now and start looking for deals on the parts I'm going to need whether that be internals for my engine or a new engine. Tranny's been rebuilt w/ heavy duty components and a tranny cooler, so thats covered...just trying to decide what to do now (160K hard fought miles).

355 is a .030" over 350.
