As a non-Chevy guy I have no idea....

Can I just go down to the junk yard and pull off any old 14 bolt pinion support assembly and use it on my 14 bolt (Of course after I swap the pinion gear and reset the gears using the proper procedure....).

Don't want to waste my time pulling one off, and it not working.

I've done it before without any problems

It will work fine, pinion suports arn't matched to the housings.

Reviving an old thread...

i just picked up a 14 bolt from a j/y and on the ring gear its marked 41 11 which im assuming means 41 ring teeth and 11 pinion teeth giving it a 3.73 ratio. I need 4.10 gears which are 41 ring 10 pinion teeth. Since the 14 bolt has the pinion support, cant i just unbolt the pinion support and pinion in there and swap it out for a 10 tooth pinion/support without touching the ring gear? Or am i missing something? Would the gears need to be reset? Thanks.

no, because the ring gear and pinion gear are a matched set. cant just swap them around

alright so 3.73 ring gear and 4.10 ring gear are different even though the tooth count is the same? Thanks for the help :smokin:

its more than that, the specific sets are matched sets. you shouldnt even mix a 4.10 ring gear for an other 4.10 ring gear without getting the new pinion to match the new 4.10 ring gear.
