: starter problems

I am having huge problems with my tempermental starter, i've shimmed and unshimmed gotten brand new starters but i will get it running perfectly for about 5 starts and then the awful zing sound comes back and i have tried the half a shimm and it still does the same thing.. anyone know any tricks

I'm wondering if it could be a heat related problem. Do you have headers, a custom exhaust? If that may be the case, you might want to look at a heat shield for your starter.

exhaust heat can easily burn out starters.

i hear where you're coming from but, i don't even have to be running it long and then turn it off and it zings. i do have headers and a custom exhaust

Have you inspected your ring gear? Its probably missing most of the teeth in the spot in goes 'zing'.

new starter or a cheep rebuit one some of the cheepos replace what they see is worn out and slap it back together not replacing all the parts for a rebuilt the gear may just be spining and not ingaging:evil:
