I feel silly asking this, but I've been messing with this thing for an hour or so and going nuts. Is there any way to remove the transmission crossmember from a '93 K2500 without removing the torsion bars? I've got the crossmember loose, and can slide it forward and back along the frame, but I cannot rotate it enough to remove it, and the torsion bars are right over it so I can't tip it up.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm already ready to cut it and then re-weld it when I put it back in.
Thanks,

Why do you have to remove it?

Why don't you just remove the torsion bars? Seems like a much better solution than cutting out the tranny crossmember, then welding it back together, unless your cutting it out to build a better one?

Why do you have to remove it?
I'm pulling the transfer case, and it would be a lot easier with the cross member out of the way.

I was hoping not to have to go that far if not absolutely necessary. It seems like a pretty major job to R&R the torsion bars, especially on a 13 year old truck that's seen it's share of salt. But if that's what it takes, maybe I'll look again. I can probably get away with just removing one.
Thanks,

it will come out without removing the torsion bars if it is the flat crossmember jack up the trans as high as you can , remove trans mount, and swing it diagonal in the frame as much as possible hit it with a hammer if nessacary. if all else fails just slide it forward or back to get some more room.

It's reasonably flat. It's about 6" wide at the ends and tapers in to about 4" at the middle. I'll try the hammer method and see if that gets it out.
Thanks.

Thanks to fordnut for setting me straight. It will come out without pulling the torsion bars. There was a ton much mud and crap on the inside of the framerails that was impeding the removal. A little scraping and a couple whacks with the BFH got it out.
Thanks again.

pulled the one out of my 91 twice once pulling the cross member (pain in the a$$)second time just pulled the case with skid plate and cross member in place dropped the case downon the skid plate and pulled it out easy to throw it back up for install just a bit of fliud down the arm. I dont have a tranny jack and tried a normal floor jack the first time just about killed my self triing to keep it on the jack:smokin:  :skull:

Glad you got it out.
As for the t-case, just bench press it in and out. Only like 100 pounds or so.:flipoff2:
