RustoleumWhite 02-04-2006, 04:37 PM Cheap is good. Sounds like a decent starting point.
You'll probably end up loosing the revolver shackles on the rear.. most people's opinions of them aren't very good, but who knows, they may end up working just fine for ya.
Have fun, don't see a cage in your list... that should be NEXT on your priority list. I'm assuming its SOA?

MochaMike 02-07-2006, 11:14 AM 79 w/a D300?
Looks like their were mods mad with the axles...
Is it a Jeep 300 or Scout 300?
If the Tranny is stock, and it's not a Jeep 300, it may be a Dana 20....
(do some research).
Pix would help.

binderbound 02-09-2006, 05:06 AM Fangs anyone?
ihochad 02-09-2006, 08:47 AM That may have a manaul shift kit in it but that is a stock IH shifter. If your "buddy" Is telling you different you may want to post up some pics of this alleged 300. It is easy to tell, the tail section will be aluminum. I would ditch those shackles ASAP they look pretty sketchy to me. I like the paint sceme however. Looks like you go a good jumping off point.
Edit: Oh yeah that is a manual steering box, how the hell do you turn that thing with those big meats and that little tiny wheel. You may want to pick up a power steering set up or a much bigger steering wheel soon.
Eagle-Mark 02-09-2006, 10:41 AM I would ditch those shackles ASAP they look pretty sketchy to me. With his drop pitman arm he needs a two inch over shackle to clear it. Maybe a little more with that heim set up... but those shackles are mighty big.

Yeah I understand the drop in the front, what I have a hard time with is the lack of any gussets or ties to the frame other than the welds on the box steel that they used for the spring hanger. Even that looks way to thin to me. I was also talking about the rear shackles, I tend to error on the side of caution so maybe it is just me but those things look like 1 broken weld from a big problem.

would should i do there then? i been looking at those and thinking they do not look to safe. up for any ideas

Gussets are your freind... Their is a lot of stress in a front end. You could also tie the 2 "fangs" together with a bit of tubing to help with side to side strength. I would address the rears with a simple H type shackle.

exactly what i was wondering. i know i struggled with 33's and a 16'' wheel, and that looks like what, a 13'' wheel. must be a nice workout:p
also, x2 on the normal H type shackles. just weld on some mounts and there you go. i wouldnt trust those rear ones as is for much more than an RTI;)

scout1/2ton 02-10-2006, 10:44 AM but if do that i will lose alot of my flex, if so how can i get it back or what else can i add o get more flex? sorry that i ask alot of questions kinda old and kinda new to alot of this but i thank everyone that is helping me
ihochad 02-10-2006, 01:20 PM but if do that i will lose alot of my flex, if so how can i get it back or what else can i add o get more flex? sorry that i ask alot of questions kinda old and kinda new to alot of this but i thank everyone that is helping me
You may lose a couple of inches of drop that is all. Your compression may actually improve. To be honest unless you are only worried about your RTI score is worth the trade off. I am a keep it simple stupid kind of guy. The way I see it, anything that helps your stablity when you have as much lift as you do while only giving up a couple of inches of drop is worth it in my book. I have not seen to many sets of revolver shackles on rigs anymore. They are just not worth the trade off. If you are dead set on getting your drop back, you could open up your spring clamps but you will have to keep a eye on them to insure they do not splay out. If you are locked up in the rear I would just leave it alone. You are still going to twist up just fine.
scout1/2ton 02-11-2006, 12:59 AM ty for the advise i think i am going to do that. what do u think about a johnny joint that weld to back part of the frame with the rear frame boxed off? so that the shackle hang from it? good? bad ? or just hang the shackle?

Totally up to you but like I said earlier I like the simple approach. The less time I have to spend fixing the extra crap that broke on the trail the more fun it is for me. I don't like to try to weld my shit back together out in the field. Some of the most capable rigs I have ever seen are basic spring over scouts with a reverse shackle, lockers and a good driver. They break less and have more fun. IMHO. Their is one other factor with me and that is that I am CHEAP.
scout1/2ton 02-13-2006, 11:49 PM i agree with u there ihochad (order my shackle and no johnny joints ) i try if it work then i let it be until it is alll change around..... working on the fuel problem first then the shackles then better roll bar but first knee surgery so i see it all gettting doen about sometime during this summer
