I am swapping out my slip yoke to a 32 splinefixed yoke. I am a little confussed about a couple things. first off on the slip yoke shaft, the speedo gear had splines to keep it from spinning freely on the shaft, thus enabeling it to turn the speedo cable. the fixed yoke shaft i got doesnt have that. the speedo gear has no splines inside and spins freely. how will that turn the speedo cable correctly?

secondly, will the first snap ring on the shaft be left off on the fixed yoke shaft? it seems that way but im not sure.

I've search here and ck5 and havent found any articles on tear downs of the 205 any help would be appreciated.

The fixed yoke shaft should have come with a plastic gear that slips over the splines on the shaft for the speedo. Order of assy. Output shaft, rear cast housing, speedo gear, output bearing, aluminum 5 bolt cover, yoke.

the "new" output shaft i have is a ford 32 spline. it came with a speedo gear but on the ford shaft it just slides on. no splines like the chevy shaft. is it held in place by compression when the yoke is bolted down?

also if someone has a link to or has exploded diagrams of ford and chevy 205's that would be great. ive search with no useful results

The backside of the output bearing will hold it in place. If you set the gear on the shaft you will notice that the shoulder of the shaft is at the same height of the gear
