9" D60 hybrid question about welding

I picked up my 9" D60 hybrid axle and found that the 9" housing is so wide it occupies almost all of the drivers side axle tube space. The mount I have from rock krawler was to be mounted on the axle tube and was cut to fit. I can get creative with cutting or fab a new mount but not sure how thick the housing is at the location the mount needs to be welded. Can the mount be safely welded to the housing there, or is the housing too thin?

gonna answer my own question. The builder says the axle tube actually goes in 4 1/2 inches there and the housing is 1/4 inch thick. He welds all the tabs for the competition vehicles there.
