I'm trying to get my rear steer done and I'm using a single ended 2.5" cylinder. I'm running into some huge clearance issues between the ram, diff and tie rod. I' like to see some pics of other ppls full hydro (front or rear diff) with a single ended cylinder. FYI, 404 diffs and WEPS arms.
Thx,
Cory

I am not sure if it has a uniball mounted on the base of the cylinder or not but I think it does.

that's my vehicle. that steering setup has been holding together well so far, allthough one of the arms is starting to twist. they are just stock arms swapped from left to right to move the tie rod to the front and up higher. gives me almost dead parallel steering (maybe very slight reverse ackerman)
i am not sure what a uniball is so i musn't have one :D it is just an 8" x 2.5" industrial cylinder with clevis ends. i have the steering stops ground right off and 8" works nice, but 9" or so would give you nicer turning circle and still be safe for the cardin joints.

If I were using stock arms it would be fine but I have Weps high steer arms which is causing me grief. I plan on using a double ended cylinder eventually. Maybe for now I'll just have to use the stock arms...

are those arms high enough to let you mount the cylinder under the tie rod and have a guard for the cylinder flush with the axle tube??

Hey Jay, do you have a local (Calgary) source for uniballs? I got everything mocked up today and as everything moves from lock to lock there is some movement that's not inline with the pins in the cylinder. I want to eleminate any binding I can.

Yeah, it looks like that's the best option available to me...having the cylinder that low isn't my first choice but I suppose with a guard/skid plate it should be fine

I thought that Chris was doing them or has done them?
Have you considered dual singles for the rear that are not as large?

No idea is chris is doing them...I doubt he'd be doing the ones I'm thinking about as they are a cast/pressed piece and they are pretty small (like 1" OD and 5/8" ID)....basically like the ball and socket from a 5/8" hiem joint without the housing. I've seen them around but I can't remember where!
Yes I considered dual singles but after buying 2 rams I may as well just buy a double ended cylinder. This single cylinder set-up is just for this season and I'll be doing a double ended next year. I've spent enough money on the rig this year so I'm just going for the simple/cheap option right now!

The only reason I was thinking of dual singles is that you could mount them higher with Uniballs on the base and the sotck TRE on the shaft to the top of the weps arms. With the duals there would be less fuss about the perfect angles for the cyclinder to be and then you wouldn't need as large a cyclinder.
Interested to see how it comes together for you. Ask Chris because I am sure he either has them/ makes them/ or gets them from somewhere. He told me about them.

MSC carries different sized ones, saw them in the big catalog today. They are made to be inserted into a round hole and then act like normal heim joints, but w/o the stud and housing.
mscdirect.com they are in the bearing area not the rodend page.
search for rodend bearings
