Hey guys. Well I’m not a hard core 4x4 man.... yet anyway. But I bought a 1979 scout traveler last may and I've been working on it as I get the Money. It will be my daily Driver, but I want a good 4x4 look. I have changed the 345 over to a bored out Chevy 350 with a comp cam (Xtreme 4x4 12-231-2) GM Goodwrench (heavy casting) heads, Quadrajet Carb, original 727 auto, Dana 20 transfer case, Dana 44s with 3.54 gears. Put in a Jegs aluminum radiator, electric fans and transmission oil cooler. Replaced Master cylinder, both rear brake cylinders, and rebuilt the calipers. I've almost completely gone threw the entire truck. I want to put it on 33's but need to do some lifting first. I have one bent front spring, and want to put reverse shackles on it when I change out the springs. Any idea how much lift I need? I have a few ideas in mind for customizing the body, but will just show pics when I am finished with them. Here are some pics, Tell me what you think...http://tdogamadog.tripod.com/1979_ih_scout_ii_traveller/

Dayum....
Your either a machinest or got a really nice neighbor!!!
Nice work on the adapter.
I normally just see the 350/350 or 350/400 package swap!!!

Or keep the IH motor and adapt the 700r4 to it!

SOA is about all you need for 33's.
1" or 1.5" Body makes things nice to work on.
Gives a little room between the frame and body!!

Why?... I had a 350 to build, but the 345 had a cracked head, broken crank, spun mains, and need line honed. You put all that together with the price of the parts and the price of the machining, it was alot. Then you consider all of the aftermarket and performance parts you can get for a 350 it was the way to go. It only cost me $50 in materials to build the adapter for the transmission, and I just wanted to do it because I could.

Nice adapter! Looks alot like the one I made for a 350 to IH T-19. Planning on making one for the IH 727 also. I took some notes. Thanks.

Looks like you are well on your way. The fab skills it looks like you have will come in REAL handy building a Scout. Welcome and good luck.

Is that a good enough reason for you Urban Wheeler?

Why would he be flamed? He's not being an ass, he posted decent pics, did some nice machine work and isn't asking lame, easily searched questions (well, not directly).

Looks good so far. Hang around and this site and read some back threads.... lot to be learned.

Rig looks pretty strait and clean... get a decent paint job on that thing and some nice rims and it will look good. If your not going to wheel it (hard) simple 4" springs with your RS in the front and a SOA rear with stock springs, some inteligent bump-stops and maybe a 1" body lift and 33's will fit and look good.

If you decide to go more hard-core in the future, you can always SOA the front then...

Status Quo... but then again, you're right ~ decent pics ~ just most guys who say "looking to fit 33s" usually get flamed ~ I was expecting it -that's all.

Like I said, welcome aboard.

Actually,

yes.

He didn't say he took it out because it was fawked. He just said he swapped it out. If it was a running motor, and for a mostly dd, I'd say to just leave it in. But with the cost to fix, versus the cost to swap, well you get the point.

to be flamed:

Simply to be made, painfully, aware of the information mishandling that you have created. To ask a simple question without doing the required "home work" of searching for a previously provided solution or similar approach to said solution.

To be flamed is like having your pride put in your lap...Having the lid removed from the 180* Starbucks triple venti vanilla latte and poured directly onto said pride. Public humiliation and painful discourse of man card...

To be flamed is like having your....

...well you will get it.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't want to appear to be some jerk looking for a good newbie flamin' ~ (it just turns out that way ;)) ~I was just surprised no one mentioned the 'looking to put 33s on it' with a sarcastic tone, had you been here a couple weeks ago, we had some serious flame fests ~ even among established folks. Glad to see we're softening up a bit.
