: Simple tcase question for competitors

Has anyone ever used high range 4wd in a competion? Would a single speed (low range) tcase get by in all comp situations?
Thanks for replies.
Karl.

We have Teams that have a 55mph low range or better. High range is generally is not low enough in semi-crawl sections. www.RockRace.com

I've never used high range in a UROC comp, but can definitely see a need for taller gears in a rockrace.

I use high range ALL THE TIME in recreational wheeling.

A single-speed 'case would be too tall sometimes, too low other times, and no option for shifting. Wouldn't make me happy, personally.

i have used hi a few times, when needing wheel spin. but, my hybrid axles were 8:1.

Never "intentionally"

I had a tranny that would not shift in Portland last yr- shot the hills in hi range cause it was pretty close to 2nd gear in low with the current setup.

Thanks for the replies. A single speed case would not be good at all for rec wheeling, I use hi and low all the time. I was thinking comp only.

I have talked to a large percentage of the UROC and WEROCK competitors and no one seems to need hi range, however a double low range seems like a
nice option. We will have our single speed (low range) out next month and have selected a 3.6 to 1 ratio as it will be good for most cometitors and is able to offer unmatched strength.
We haven't been able to go to any XRRA events yet, but expect our t-case to have the biggest advantage there as time is even more critical. The 3.6 to 1 ratio will easily be able to be set up for those types of events also.

No chance of 4:1 or deeper??? You've had time to think about it and I'm having a hard time deciding if we want to run that high of a gear or not...?

I know you're workin on it and are playing it safe to start, but I figgered I'd just try one more time:cool2:

I would like to, but with the testing we've done we aren't confident that the shafts would live (the lower the ratio the smaller the input and output shafts have to be). We designed the t-case to handle 1,500 foot/pounds of input torque all day long and shock loads much higher, but until we get more real world info. we have to rely on design data.
We have been talking to both transmission companies about lower first gears for Powerglides and differential companies that claim they can produce ratios down to the mid sevens without sacrificing any strength. This way there will be more options to come up with a crawl ratio that's where you want it.

Come awn Dustin, you know you want it. I know we're going to give them hell. We will all see how well the Lovell t-case can handle my motor and right foot. :grinpimp:

I've been digging around about how to make this work for awhile now and have not come up with anthing except, yeah, we COULD do that but it'll be 3 to 6 months. We're starting Bec's crawler in a couple weeks!
