I heard that Sierra Pacific Lumber which owned the land around there gave it up to the USFS.

Saturday I took a ride up to Loon Lake and as far as I could get to Wentworth Springs, on the way out I seen that there was a log skidder parked on the dirt road that leads to Bassi falls. I do not know if they have started to work or not .

I was at Bassi Yesterday, Sunday, March 31. The "upper Bassi" road was blocked by a huge log, over 3 feet thick. The loader was parked nearby. The lower road that goes by the creek, which I have never been on before, was open. It is apparent, however, that one reason closure is considered, is runoff. The road in several spots is a virtual creek. As the road is eroded down, it collects, redirects and concentrates runnoff..................big time. The camper shell is still there, with the obligatory bullet holes. At the falls were a pile of beer bottles and .30 caliber carbine cases, chili cans, broken glass, the usual crap. Haute Cuisine !! Penalty for throwin away good reloadable brass. Some other wheelers, "Ray" the large, grabbed most of the small trash. Thanks Ray and crew. If I ever get to go back, I'll remember to bring several trash bags for the POS that throw their shiat on the ground for everyone else to pick up. If you can carry it in full, the least you can do is drag the empty crap back out to the Campground dumpster at Union Valley:usa:

Thanks for the info, too bad the upper road is closed. Maybe not the most challenging but definetly one of the most beautiful areas up there, especially by the base of the falls. I'm always packing trash out with us everytime we stop there... what's wrong with some people?
