: SIGN THE PETITION FOR A NEW 4X4 SUZUKI: Bring back the Brute!

Hi Gang!

Some friends and I have put together a petition to ask Suzuki for a 4x4 vehicle that is more geared to our needs as "real" off-roaders.

Here is the petition:

http://www.petitiononline.com/SuziTech/petition.html

If you want Suzuki to bring back a hard core off-road vehicle with solid axles front and rear and with really heavy duty sized equipment (relative to the size of the vehicle) then you _NEED_ to go sign this petition.

Even if you are not a fan of Suzukis, you NEED to sign this petition. If you want Ford or GM or any other manufacturer to bring back a real off-road vehicle then they have to perceive a market for it!

If Suzuki brings back a Samurai/Sierra style vehicle then maybe the other manufacturers will follow suit. Maybe DaimlerChrysler won't "ruin" the Wrangler with IFS as well. If not, then Suzuki has the market all to itself and can't help but have a successful model. Which means we off-roaders still win!

Please pass the word on to your friends and 'wheeling buddies. We need to get the signature count high in order to make Suzuki Corporate notice us. Also feel free to pass this email on to other mailing lists that I don't know about. We need to get the word out there.

Hopefully in two or three years we will be able to run down to our local Suzuki dealers and buy the truck we want instead of spending the entire winter building it!

Thanks all!

I'm signed up too. I was talking to a friend who works for Chysler quizing him about the future of the TJ. He did a bunch of the suspension testing on the Rubicon.

I asked what the future of the solid axle is, he said he couldn't say. I asked if IFS like the willys and dakar was a possibility and he just smiled and looked away...

I got the impression it doesn't look good!

It would probably be easier to set up a company to import new/used, existing Sammy's into the country & sell them as "Off Highway Only" or such..
I mean hell - they import Unimogs!

but what the hey - I signed. :)

hi guys,
this is just to inform you that suzuki already sells a real 4x4.
it's called jimny and you can have a look to it here:
http://www.suzuki4.co.uk/jimny_html/jimny_framset.htm
despite its appearence it is as rude as the samurai was.
it has solid axles front and rear, 1.3 16 valves engine, coil springs and frame.
i really don't understand why it has never been imported in the us, anyway i think could be easier for you to ask suzuki to import it in your country, rather than re-start producing the glorius samurai.
or you could try to import the jimny by yourselves because i'm pretty sure it is sold also in canada.

greetings from italy.

Nope, not sold in Canada.

Canada has safety regs (CMVSS) more or less the same as the American NHTSA/DOT regs (minor differences).

The Jimny would have to pass these regs to be sold in North America. Don't know if the Jimny was ever tested/compared but if it doesn't have air bags it's an automatic fail (I think).

Then there's all the structural stuff...

If it was offered, I'd buy a Jimny - would have to do something to "de-pansify" the look of it though. :D

You will find yourself doing the same to the jimny as you do to your Samuri .Though they are about 4 or 6 inches longer and coil sprung but they do have chain drive transfers and require old model94/95 sami transfers for rockhoppers gearsand they have the same small wheel tyre combo and similiar weak axles and housings as the sami has, All the same i think the would make a better starting base for an offroader than a samuri ,just add big springs and like you say remove the plastic crap...they are about 19,000 Aussie dollars probably minus gst if it leaves the country about 10 %, plus shipping charges , Send me ya details and a cheque and ill make sure it goes to the right address!

Defiantely. This part of Canada the big deal is rust. Just to get a half decent Samurai around here verges on doing a full "restoration" before even getting to the fun stuff. That is if you don't like driving something that looks like a rusted out peice of sh!te.

Ha! If only it was doable.

Canada does not allow imports of any new vehicles that don't pass either CDN or US safety regs.

Chris, I believe in my research I was told it you make a vehicle immobile by removing the engine or rear drive axle you can import it. It's similar to the japanese half chop cars being imported for the ricers.

Import the removed compontents SEPERATELY and it's ok. Put them in the trunk and it's not so cool.

it doesn't have air bags it's an automatic fail (I think).

the jimny comes out with standard dual airbag

We have the Jimny in Australia and some guys really wheel them quite hard.

also in italy

they do have chain drive transfers and require old model94/95 sami transfers for rockhoppers gearsand

not true. APIO (from japan) sells 60% reduction kit that works in the standard t-case

similiar weak axles and housings as the sami has

unfortunately not true. the front axle is weaker than samurai. it has nearly the same shafts of the sj 410:shaking:

they are about 19,000 Aussie dollars probably minus gst if it leaves the country about 10 %, plus shipping charges ,

about 14.000 euro in italy, and they're left hand drive :D :D :D

cheers

Well I am number 1670, but in reality, dont expect too much to happen about all this. I work for one of the Big 3 in Detroit, and they will graciously accept this petition, but then can it right away, as the 'bean counters' wont precieve any value in it. the only thing that you can hope for is they form a enthusiest group inside the company, like Ford did, to help promote offroad activities. The problem with Ford, is that what they say and what they do are tow very different things.

with that said, it cant hurt to try though. Nicely done as well.

hey trial Jimny wheres the link to those 60%gears , is it in japanese? and whats the reduction in high if any?
rockhopper is about 84 % reduction low and 12 %high isnt it, so you do need the old case if you want those gears, second hand cases are cheap anyway!
........hmm why cant you canadians import a second hand one from italy into canada , cheaperthan new no rust right hand drive??
