: 2 Inch backspace rims
GloNDark 04-01-2002, 08:56 AM Anybody running this setup on stock cruiser axles?? I am in need of a new set of rims after my disastrous weekend at prision hill. And I am considering this setup on to get a little more width outta my stock set up.
I know it will be harded on the bearings, and the turning....anything else?
60seriesguy 04-01-2002, 10:05 AM If you find a source for them that doesn't involve the sale of a firstborn, please let us know, I've been considering this for quite some time but haven't come across any viable candidates! I thought about having a set of stock rims modified, but I had a poor previous experience and would prefer not to let Stockton bend me over.
GloNDark 04-01-2002, 10:10 AM HAHAHA That's pretty much all I heard "STAY AWAY FROM STOCKTON WHEEL!"
Funny you should mention that. Summit told me Saturday that they could get em to me for a pretty reasonable price but he wasn't sure how long it would take, so I am waiting to call him back today and see what he found out. I will post the price as soon as I get a hard price on em. :D
elf_cruiser 04-01-2002, 10:37 AM YES, definitely stay away from stockton wheel, those guys suck ass!!!!
Here is the 411 on 2" BS wheels, i ran some for a couple years before i got my Rockwells. You can go to any Discount tire, and get the regular wagon wheels, but you have to special order them with 2" BS. tell the guy at the counter you need reversed rims, he should know what you mean. They put the center section in oppostie the way they usually do, so there is more room for backspacing.
Now, on to using them - I would recommend getting them, if you have some lift and 35" or bigger tires, and you don't need to drive down the road very often, or on the highway. Cruiser steering usually has a fiar amount of play in it, and the extra BS just amplifies it. With a SOA, PS conversion, and 35" boggers i could not go straight above 40 mph. I was using the stock tie-rod ends, though. If you have a hi-steer with new TRE's or SRE's, i would say go for it. If you have orig. steering components, i would say go for it, but don't expect to drive it very fast.
Anyways, the wheels are easy to get, but they cost about $5 more than the normal ones.

Medusa 04-01-2002, 12:54 PM Elf-cruiser -- I think you mean LESS backspacing. The stock Cruiser wheel has 3.5" of backspacing, and the last time I checked 2 was less than 3.5:D :D
I am confused, however, because I don't see how reversing the center section can yield 2" of BS. I think you are correct in that switch should result in more not less BS.

No Medusa... There is a guide on one of the custom wheel makers site on how they are able to make wheels with a BS of 1.5" by flipping the center section. I can't seem to find it right now, but I know it is somewhere. I thought is was on MRT's site... but it's not. Maybe someone else has the link???
Jason M 04-01-2002, 01:42 PM Boy lots of help here...
Here is the scoop. I run 2" BS on reversed rims from Trailready (beadlocks on all 4 with a standars rim as a spare.) The spare was $45. Those were 15x10" 2" BS rims. Speed is fine. You will loose a bit of turning radius but not much. An increase in Trackwidth of 3" helps quite a bit..
At speed I do not have any trouble. My truck does not wander much at all.
If oyu have stock steering with the center steering thingie then you will have problems no matter what. With a 4 turn PS box it will be fine. But if you are really worried about it go Hydro assist.
Run them. They work really well...
Although I do suggest beadlocks with reversed rims. It is much easier to blow a bead when the rim is reversed..
The Jerk 04-01-2002, 01:52 PM i ran 2 inch bart bead locks all summer, no problemo. jIMMy
FeCamel 04-01-2002, 02:22 PM I've got 2" BS Barts for my Cruiser, my friend is already running them. They work fine. Our rims are 8" wide so the stress is the same as a 10" wide rim with 4" BS.
Reddog 04-01-2002, 05:58 PM I got 2" BS basic white spokes from Rock Stomper for about $50 each delivered to my door.
I like em :)
RHINO 04-01-2002, 06:11 PM i run 2" BS D-window 15x8, no probs so far, they were $54 ea. and non-painted.
on the bead blowing thing jason mentioned, i air down to about 12PSI and havent had any probs losing air, i know thats not real low, but its enough for a cushy ride and bigger patch, so its good enough for me.:D
elf_cruiser 04-01-2002, 06:15 PM Elf-cruiser -- I think you mean LESS backspacing. The stock Cruiser wheel has 3.5" of backspacing, and the last time I checked 2 was less than 3.5
sorry, sometimes i think backwards...
Medusa 04-02-2002, 07:51 AM Sometimes-- Hell I seem to be backwards most of the time. I was visualizing the wrong type of center section for my earlier comment on reversing the wheels.
t wrecks 04-02-2002, 03:37 PM I am running 2" backspaced 8" wide Bart wheels and they are real nice. I did run into a problem with the center section rubbingon the vented rotor calipers when I did the disk conversion. I had to use 1/4" spacers and still grind some material from the caliper.
60seriesguy 04-02-2002, 04:10 PM So what do these Barts look like? Wheels are my Waterloo, I've had six sets of rims on my Land Cruiser and never been 100% satisfied. Looking to change back to 8" wide rims for the next set, but I'd like to keep the overall width the same. Any contact info on the Barts would be great, too!
t wrecks 04-02-2002, 04:51 PM I have been able to identify Bart wheels by the holes around the center section. Most steal wheels like the ones from 4-wheel parts, have "D" shaped holes. Bart wheels have "O" shaped holes. Other then that they look like any other black powder coated steal wheel.
fc187 04-04-2002, 07:21 PM I run 8" with 2" bs on 14" tires and I dig them. but I would not recomend them without power stearing. They kinda amplify out of ballanced tires and they give the tire more of a leverage advantage on the stearing system. Ideally fj60 axels or cut down one tons would be sweet but that wasnt an option at the time. The 2" BS Wheels put my tires where I wanted them for the right price. Got em from Americas tire co for $200 out the door.
:fj:
Mr McGee 04-05-2002, 09:00 PM in either my summit or jegs catalog, i saw 15x8's with all backspacing (in inch incriments) from about 5 to 2. or something like that? i know they had two tho--black rockcrawler rims.
