I have seen this on several sites and heard of many people doing this, is it worth it?
Here are some sites that i've found:

Just drill your yoke and put straps on it ;)

I did this on my 35, but SPACED doing it on my swapped in 44. When I broke a 1310 in Moab in september, I was maxing out my friend's cordless drill to extricate the THREE broken strap bolts on the pinion yoke. What a PITA. I did learn, however, that u-joints are held in really well with straps and oversized grade 8 bolts simply hammered into the drilled out holes. :)

I used the writeup from Dan Barbieri on Off-road as a guide when I did my 35 yoke. The biggest piece of advise is to use incrementally larger bits to ream out the hole.
