Can you only use pardi's saver on a 4speed case? on a semi related note, for those of you running a 420 or other transfer case supported combo, are you all using the plate style crossmember that looks like the tcase saver? thats all i've seen...

Morgan's pics of the Pardi t-case saver are in the NP203 doubler section of his site. Go to the details of his FJ55 modifications and you will find the link.
Or you can click here. (http://www.birfield.com/~morgan/tech/GRB/)

I've got Don Amways t-case saver on mine and was really pleased with it. Good fit, good quality piece, and the price is definitely good as well. IIRC, like $45 for the kit direct, less of you want to try Ebay (which I did - his was my first purchase ever on there...heh)

I got emails from Pardi on his t-case plate kit as well, and it was LOTS more money, like over $250 for the kit. I'm not going to argue it's merits or quality or anything, but that was more than I was willing to spend.

IMO, running Amways saver on top and having a good FULL COVERAGE skid plate (none of that whimpy stock crap) will be sufficient for my needs. The Pardi kit spaces out your rear output, "may" require a rear driveshaft mod, would require re-positioning an Advance Adapters-type t-case support, and more.

Yeah, my NP203 GRB pics (http://www.birfield.com/~morgan/tech/GRB/) page is the best place to see Pardi's saver. Sorry for not replying sooner.

I never wanted to deal with a broken tcase, so I went with both savers. On the 55, I had to add a tcase crossmember - there wasn't one there before. So forward/aft location of the crossmember was my choosing. (Actually, John Stone installed the crossmember.)

$250 may sound like a lot, but if you figure the cost of a used tcase, or better yet a rebuilt tcase, it begins to sound like good insurance.

John once put his saver on a cracked tcase, then did the rubicon with it, to show that it does its job. He's been wheeling the sierra trails since before a lot of us were born, and he's been working on cruisers that long. Earl Warden passed on his cruiser parts business to John, back in the day.

Some of the broken tcases that have been running the top plate cracked across the bottom. The Pardi plate is in the right plane to react to that stress, where the Anway plate is not.

Sure, it's easy for me to rationalize the cost and effort of installing the Pardi plate, I already did it! :) But I still think they are worth the money and time. Installation was a cinch. He gives you all the hardware needed to install, and everything fit fine. I don't think it would affect rear driveshaft length.

If I had it to do over again, I would go with the rear plate of Jerry Nichol's FJ60 doubler kit (http://www.mudrak.com/products/60doubler.html) and mate my NP203 GRB to a 1980s "split" tcase and do the non-US parking brake mod to it. (Nichol's kit wasn't available when I did the doubler.)

For the future, I'm starting to squirrel away 1-ton parts. I've already got a rear 14-bolt, and if I can find a decent price on a front D60, I will probably switch to a 203-205 doubler. But that is way down the road for me.

Thanks rino thats it! Woody I have don's saver on the top but the two tranfercase's I have blown the bottom out. When I swapped gears yesterday I couldnt beleve how light the houseing was to the t/c, There's nothing to it! Im only running 33in tires and the last t/c (old style) broke pretty easy. The first one was a newer one and it took more punishment, but Is still a weak link. I think with don & jhon's savers together I will make a huge diffrence. Morgan it looks like you cut out the stock cross support on your frame? Will this under mine the frame strength, or will the cross support take up the slack?

FJ55's don't have a stock crossmember near the tcase, like FJ40s do. The tranny/tcase just hang off the back of the F/2F. I added an AA crossmember because of the greater length and weight of the SM465-NP203-4spdtcase combo, and to help control any torque problems.
