I heard from a buddy of mine that Ford is coming out with a new diesel. I think he said 6.5l twin-turbo.Does anyone know anything about that?

6.4L twin turbo, based on modified 6.0L block supposed to be avail mid '07 model year.

Technically, it's not a typical twin turbo setup, which means that 1 turbo feeds each bank of cylinders. It is a sequential turbo system where 1 turbo feeds into the other, and then feeds all cylinders.

2007 and 2010 emission certs for Diesels are requiring very high compressor pressure ratios, and it's difficult to make the necessary pressure ratios with a single stage turbo. Thus the sequential systems.

Anyway, there's also alot of discussion on TheDieselStop.com (http://www.TheDieselStop.com) forums too....

I thought "twins" WAS a sequential system, like what BOMBed guys are running in truck pulls and drag racing.... I've never seen a diesel with a seperate turbo per bank (like each side of the "V")

OK... semantics, I guess. Sequential more accurately describes how multiple turbo stages are arranged in typical Diesel applications, including truck/tractor pull, and engines like Cat ACERT, etc.

A "twin" Diesel setup can be seen here:
