: tire to rim ratio's
binderbart 02-09-2006, 01:57 PM just picked up a set of tires and rims for the toyota.I bought them to have a spare set of rims for the toy, and the tires are 32x11.50x15 BFG AT's with better than half the tread left. I got all four rims and tires for $125. the plan is to put the tires on the terra. I'm running that size right now and this way I'll have a spare set.
now, I just got into a arguement with someone. the rims on the terra are 10 inch wide. which I think is the perfect match for the tires (11.50 wide) but know it all says the ideal rim is a 9 inch rim....someone tell me I'm right and he is wrong.

Go to BFG's website and look up the tire, it will tell you what they think is the "best" rim for the tire is, as well as what is acceptable widths.
binderbart 02-09-2006, 02:25 PM AAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHH.
just went to the site, Dieselsmoke, 8-10 is the desired rim size with 9 being ideal. who runs a 9 inch rim:mad3: I've never seen a 9 inch rim. well, tomorrow I gotta eat crow.
Old Scout 02-09-2006, 02:28 PM Hell I would go with a 8"! Narrow rims help keep the bead in place. I think a 12.5" width tire looks funny on a 10" rim! :flipoff2:
33x12.5 on 15x10

binderbart 02-09-2006, 02:38 PM sure guys, kick a guy when he is down. now I'll got to go back and tell Mr. know it all he was right.:mad3:
I like the way my 32x11.5x15's look on the 10 inch rims, its a everyday driver and it gives it the stout, tough look.
I do like the look of the 15x9 centerlines.
on the trail scout I run a 32x9.5x15 super swamper TSL bias on 7 inch rims so it will hold the bead, any wider and I think they wouldn't hold up as well.
binderbart 02-09-2006, 02:42 PM hey Old Scout, that is one sharp looking rig. I like the looks of the terra top on the 100 inch wheel base. you got it fixed up nice, even with the baby blue color:flipoff2:

binderbart 02-09-2006, 03:02 PM in my defense....and its the only picture I have of the "harley davidson" terra I have on file to post. its not a great picture , but I think you can make out how the tires look good on it.

RustoleumWhite 02-09-2006, 04:06 PM I've always run/ruled of thumb that a 11.5" wide tire was best on a 7 or 8" rims. 10.5" tire on a 6 or 7" rim. And a 12.5" tire on a 8" rim.
Some people like 12.5's on a 10" rim, but I don't care for the look, nor the bead retention.
Now the new crop of 13.5 and 14" tires... a 10" rim would be OK, but a 9" rim would be nice[er]. Say a 8" wide rim with a weld-on bead lock :D :D.
I'm a little shocked that BFG would recomend a 9" rim for a 11.5" tire... seems really stretched out top me.
When I ran 32/11.5/15 BFG's they looks and worked really well on 8's.

I agree on the 12.5's--- We tried running 35X12.50-15's on a 10" rim and at 10lb's couldn't keep a bead on. We went to an 8" rim and never throw a bead and dont tear up the wheel as bad in the rocks.
reuben 02-09-2006, 09:12 PM i runa 18.5 wide tire on a 10" rim

I agree with what your saying. I run the 7 inch rims for my swampers (9.5) I would like to find a 6 inch rim for them but haven't been able to that will work on the trail scout.
The terra is a different story. Its a daily driver only. I keep the tires at 50 psi. I dont think I'll throw a bead. I had them on 8 inch rims but it seemed like the rims pulled the tire in to much. If I took a corner in town to quick I seemed to notice some tire sway.
If I get time tomorrow, I'll try to shoot some better pictures of it so everyone can see how it looks. I like the looks of it on 10 inch rims for some reason.
Rusty Escandell 02-12-2006, 08:23 AM What about 44/18.5 on 16.5 hummer H1 beed locks 8 or 12 bolt rims, any pics of this set up? I think the rims are 9" wide, but not sure. I've only seen 42/15's before. http://www.intercotire.com/site33.php recomends 12" wide
I thought I'd piggy back this thread, hope you don't mind BinderBart but your question made me think.
Thanks
