Ok, can anybody give me the lo down on a trac loc, I bought one for 50.00 bucks fits a dana 60 did I get burned. It looks all intact cluches and the like, can anything be done to make it loc up better. Believe I read somewhere that turning the the outside clutch discs on each end does help anybody????? thx

At issue here is not the clutches but the strength of the case itself. A 60 trac lok was ok in the 2wd fords it came stock in but in a 4wd application where a 60 is being applied one would also assume 35+" rubber and associated gearing that will apply too much torque to the carrier assembly one should be prepared for the case to just break in half. Best to just set it up stock, and accept that to make it live one will need to truely "Tread Lightly".

Well I should have been more specfic this will go in a dana 60 on the front of my truck. This is my dd, not really used off road more of a hunting and winter driver. I am just trying to get something in the front that will turn both front wheels.Maybe I should put in a detroit locker in the front and a arb air locker for the 14 bolt,I just want four wheel drive when I lock in the front and engage the transfer case thx for the imput

trac loc is low end on the food chain. If you have the bucks, go ARB front and rear. Not much more than detroit and arb. My.02

If mainly light duty 4x4 applications then go ahead and run it. ARB in the rear and you have a decient hunt/snow road setup

Make sure it's 35 spline.

:shaking:

a $50 used trak-lock for the front of a DD, vs a ... what, $700 or more ARB?

great idea, next time keep it to yourself:flipoff2:

:flipoff2: back at ya:flipoff2:
If you had read his post , he was considering putting a detroit in the front and an arb in the rear. So, if he has the couple hundred extra to upgrade to a selectable locker, why not? As we all know, many DD don't stay that way. why not upgrade now and be prepared for later?

Hello everyone, ok looks like this was going to work. But I checked the trac lok and it looks like the sumbitch is a 30 spline not 35, so now can it be switched over to 35? or am I just SOL!. I guess one of these days I will figure all this shit out and I will get out of the newbie section until then I will be calling for the imput from the people who know, so let the posts fly thx

Sure and the parts are out there. The trick is finding them. You need to find a Dana Dist. who is willing to dig in the books and brakedown a D60 trac loc and get your part number. Dana should still be stocking them. Someone here may have a set. It's solvable just weigh time/cost.

They don't. I have a Traklok for a 60 but is 30 spline. I looked online to get the 35 spline gears, went to an authorized Dana dealer, and they don't have them, don't make them anymore, and the only way to get them if another dealer has some in stock.

Thanks for the offer,I would be looking for a set that fit a 4:10 ratio. This truck is my DD and I am running a 496, with some hiway driveing time. So 4:10s are more to my likeing thx
