: Factory wiring diagram needed 88 fj62
cruiserrg 04-01-2002, 08:06 PM A friend of mine is replacing the f motor in his FJ40 with a 3f fuel injected motor from a 1988 FJ62. He needs a factory wiring diagram for the engine harness and chassis harness. If anyone can scan one in please email them to me: cruiserrg@charter.net
Thanks in advance
ouibus 04-01-2002, 08:34 PM I don't have one to scan to you, but what you can do is call up Specter and they have specific wiring diagrams for each year of cruisers. I think that they cost like $7 a piece. The great thing about them is that they are from Toyota, so they are very specific. I have a couple of them for my cruiser and it works great to try and trouble shoot a problem. HTH Thomas
fj40guy 04-01-2002, 08:47 PM Just seeing what this looks like...
24pin - 18pin - 10pin (FJ62 computer, FJ80 with 3FE has a different computer)Despite all the space formating being hosed, there still is a ton of info here.
Sorry... need to buy a scanner, just had this as my "cheat sheet" for building a harness for the same reason.
You only need to splice into the 24 pin section. 18 & 10 pin remain as is.

cruiserrg 04-02-2002, 01:19 PM Guys thanks for the replies.
roundrocktom,
Is there any way to copy your shematic and snail mail to me since you don't have a scanner. PM me if you can.
Also my buddy had specific questions concerning a relay that was called an opening relay. He is working off a aftermarket schematic and is not specific enough. The way he described it was a 5 pin relay tied into starter solinoid and Air Flow sensor that seemed to power the fuel pump. He said he couldn't find it on the donor vehicle. The way he described it, it seemed to power the fuel pump during cranking and when motor was running. Any thoughts on that?
Also, it sounds like you've done this conversion. Did you do anything with the speed sensor? did you fool it, or try to tie into the speedo cable? My buddy says it looks like it tied into the speedometer, but he is not using the FJ62 speedo.
Thanks
fj40guy 04-02-2002, 05:47 PM Greg,
It is an excel spreadsheet. I can attach it to an email. Just send a note to me at via pm and I will send it along.
I had planned on converting Spot (FJ60) to a 3FE engine, hence the work on the connection.
I also built up a harness to test the ECU, but since changed things around for the GM TPI (1227730) modules with a custom harness. Never enough hours in the day to get to everything, goal is to have a ported manifold for the 2F using common GM parts.
I STILL have that 3FE for sale. $1750, perfect for a FJ62 or early FJ80 with a blown engine.

fj40guy 04-02-2002, 07:30 PM Fuel Pump Relay:
5 pin relay that will close when either: 1) cranking the engine 2) the air flap of the air meter is just open enough to allow air into the engine. Idea is to shut off the fuel pump in an event of the engine stalling (or in a crash).
If your buddy is really stuck, then TWO relays can be used. Both close the fuel pump, one from cranking, the other from the air vane. Just take good notes (I keep a bound notebook in the shop) so you can figure out what the heck you did later! :D
SPEED SENSOR:
Dang, looking through my FJ62 manual with no luck other than "testing" it by jacking up the rear wheels and checking the speed. There is a funny note about "replace speedometer assembly" if not working. Odd thing about this, the speed sensor could be a common magnetic reed relay element. Just like a bicycle cadence meter, it sees a magnet spinning around. If you have ever taken a speedometer apart it consist of a spinning magnet and a metal disc that moves against a spring to show the speed indicator. For my old rally car I used to epoxy in a hall effect sensor for an electronic odometer.
Problem with the large manual is the wiring diagrams are bound into the book. To scan them means pulling them out of the book. :(
I really recommend anyone swapping engines get the factory manual. If the donor 3FE engine is from a FJ62, use a '88-90 manual. If from a FJ80, then 91 or later (till '93???). I know the computer connections are different. Learned the hard way. :(

I have one I brought home from work. It isn't Toyota (it's aftermarket). It is 5 pages I can scan and e-mail ya if you still need/want it. If you only need the engine/computer stuff it is on the first 2 pages.
