: Leaking diff

The trail scout has had a leak on the front diff for a while. If you leave it sit long enough, it will leak about a coffee cup size puddle.

I tried a new seal, still leaked. Tried a new seal and a speedy sleeve, still leaked. Took the yoke to work, chucked it up and indicated it. straight within .0008. ???

When installed it feels right, no slop in the yoke as in a bad bearing. No vibration when in four wheel. Any ideas?

Which side is it leaking on (cover or yoke?).
Maybe you blew the seal on the yoke side.

Cover could be bent?

You are talking about the pinion seal? When you used a big prybar to remove the old seal did you gouge the machined surface where the new seal is pressed in?

Sorry, I should have explained more, it was getting towards nap time.

Its the pinion seal. I didn't have to use a pry bar to get it out, pulled out pretty simply. if they don't I use a puller we have.

I've tried a seal, still leaked, tried a new seal again with a speedy sleeve, still leaked. so I thought maybe my yoke was outa round, nope. its a slow leak too. you can see its coming from the seal area, I cleaned it real good with brake clean.

IIRC there is a spring ring on the inside of the seal. The spring may have popped off. Did you put a liberal amount of grease on the pinion before putting the seal in place?

Found the problem. I put the yoke back in, new seal with old speedy sleeve. filled the diff and let sit while I worked on some aluminum rims and other things. Withing 2 hours I had a leak.

So, I put it up on the hoist, wiped everything down good and sat there with a drop light and cold beer. It took about 10 minutes. Apparently I cracked my diff again on the last trail ride. It's cracked on the other side now where the seal presses in.

I repaired it last time with J.B. weld. Maybe its time for a donor axle. This crack is about 180 degrees from the last one.
