I have a 98 Chevy k1500 ext. cab with a 5 speed manual trans. I am going to be doing a sas and t case swap to passanger side. I believe my out put shaft on the tranny is 32 spline (if not please let me know), but my question is are there any other special adapters that i need to get to do this swap. Going with a NP 208 most likely. I was reading about some type of speedo thing but didnt understand exactly what it was. If yall could help me out. Tried to search but not finding a whole lot of people with a 98 that has the manual tranny. Thanks

You're right on the 32-spline.

Use a 90-91 t-case (NP241) from a K5 or Burb. They are passenger-side drop and use a VSS. Most will be 27-spline, but you can swap your input gear.

Or you might just want to use a driver-side drop axle.

right, well the reason i was going to go with the passanger side is because i got a buddy that has one he will give me for super cheap if not nothing, but it might be just as easy to spend the money and get a driver side.

It depends on how much you like your speedometer. You can use a 32 spline 208 from a standard or a TH400, but you won't have the VSS plug for your electic speedo. The 208 will be clocked down about 6" more than your stock case, so you will have to modify your crossmember, not sure sure how the 241 will hang.

Thanks for all your help red chevy, i appreciate it. Is it good that the 208 is clocked down?? I see two things, helps with driveline angle, but also hangs down further more prone to hitting something. As far as moding the crossmember thats no big deal. What do i need to do to make the speedo work correctly. For some reason i thought i read somewhere that it just effects the speedo when in four wheel drive. If it only effects the speedo in 4wd then I am ok with it.

It will end up clocked the same as it is in the original solid-axle truck. (Hovever, I wouldn't have guessed it was a 6" lower)

Just an estimate on the 6". The yoke ends up being about center of the crossmember, or maybe an inch or so above center. As for the speedo only being affected in 4-low, this would be true with a divorced t-case and a two wheel drive tranny. The VSS, or a mechanical speedo for that matter, is mounted on the tranny. Thus, only reading the output from the tranny and not the low range ratio in the t-case. Making the VSS work on a 208, I have saw a couple of threads on here about using parts from a 241 and a 208, maybe form a dodge or something, but I can't recall. Best bet would be to find a passenger drop 241 with the VSS or possible use your stock 241 and convert a passenger drop 241 to VSS.

Yea ....is it possible to use the vss on my 241 I have right now and use it on a 208?? I am going to head to some yards this weekend looking for the t case/ axle

Not sure how to do it, but I read were someone crossed parts with these two cases to do this. If you could find a 241 passenger drop, I think that it would be easier to swap the parts to it.

The tailhousing on the 208 is different bolt pattern from the 241.

so a passanger drop 241 will bolt right up to the 5 speed tranny(as long as its 32 spline). also, if i can find one with the vss then i am able to just plug it right in and go. thanks

Yep, 32 spline=bolt on. The VSS should plug right in, but you may want to verify that the plug is the same type. IF not you could just swap the plugs.
