: throttle body spacer on new chevy

I need some advice. I have a 2001 Chevy with the 5.3. I've put in a K&N filter and Flowmaster exhaust. What other relatively cheap performance mods are there?

I am considering the TBI spacer (Helix power tower.) It raises the throttle body injection unit an inch and is "threaded" so it spins the air. It says it improves hp and torque and fuel milage. It is about $100/$110. Anyways, does anyone have any experience with these? Is it worth the money? How hard is installation? Will it really help? Some info would be helpful. thanksa bunch.

Get it chipped. That is the most bang for your buck. Usually runs about $400 but can add as much as 30% power sometimes. Only draw back is many require 91/92 octane. I would skip the the spacer, but that is just me.

I have a spacer on mine, it seemed to help a bit but like charlo said the chip is probably the best mod you can get for it besides a supercharger. After I installed mine I noticed a huge difference.

Have you priced headers? On my toy (I know where I am :D) they weren't too expensive and made a difference. And saying they made a difference on the 22RE is saying a lot :D

Okay, well thanks for the advice. As far as headers, they are really expensive and a real bitch to install. Now, there's no chip for the 5.3 (that I know of) but there's the Hypertech Programmer, pretty pricey, but I've heard great things about it. I mean, you can change your shift points, etc. But, since I do not yet have a lift :( , I don't know that I'd really need the programmer. So, ???

The power you can get useing a programer is the same weither you have a lift or not.

I have a Jet 6Pack in my 5.7 and I think it's pretty good. It has 6 settings: Towing, stage 1, stage 2, economy, valet, and an open slot to program, and a anti-theft setting. (I know that's 7 but it includes zero) I have another 6pack chip still in the box unused but I think that it is pretty vehicle specific. If it is compatable I'd sell it for $150. They're about $250 or more new.
I also have a 1/2" throttlebody spacer from turbocity and that made a difference too. A lot cheaper than the helix deal and I think they do the same thing. $30 compared to $100.
If you can change your oil you can install both of these things.
I also got a TBI rebuild kit from turbocity and new injectors which pepped things up too.

Take the money you were going to spend on the spacer and chip and get a straight axle truck. Then use the IFS as a tow vehicle....

hehehehe

Just had to Razzz you

5.3's aren't a TBI set up......

Go exhaust before you mess with the computer:)

Swap the exhaust system before any of that other voodoo magic crap. Or save that money and push the gas harder.
