View Full Version : Where have all the parts gone?
It seems to me there has been an unusual "Dry Spell" of mogs and parts lately, Is everyone hoarding the stuff up, or are they popular enough that the stuff sells so quickly? I look thru lots of boards....
(Been looking for a reasonable 404 front to do 4WS)
Curious....
Weps I am all out of 404 parts. Maybe you need to move up with the big boys. Why don't you try these.

Unimog parts are available all over. It just that cheap axle parts are gone. YOu can still buy them but you have to pay for them. I half way think it is appropriate.

it's happening over this side of the world as well. a couple years ago guys couldn't give the stuff away. now it's all gone and people are paying top dollar.
rumour has it our army is auctioning off all their U-series mogs in a couple years, so the cycle will probably start again..

Seriously, I know vendors on this board who have crates of axle parts and other parts for almost every model of unimog. Your just not going to find the cheap deals anymore. The parts are their, and alot of them are still in the mercedes system. Yes, the parts supply is low on axles, but alot of parts are being scooped up by people that know what they are worth, and are jsut waiting for the right person to come along and buy it al.

I think until 1974 they have drums, and since 74 they have discs.

Disc brakes were an option. Both my 79's have drum brakes.

You are right... I looked in the fsm and all 403, 406, 413, and 416s came with drums, or discs as an option.
Somehow I got 1974 stuck in my head... maybe that was the first year for discs as an option? Dunno. BTW... nice Doppelkabiner!

Well, I'm pretty certain all (MB speced?) 406's and 416's had drum brakes until 1973, then, they obviously went over to use disc brakes. But since nothing is "standard" on these trucks, I'd guess you could order whatever you might like - also brake-wise.
However, the Case-badged 406's could have been an exception, is that what you have, Von?
I believe 421's (similar styling) kept drum brakes throughout their whole production run.
