I already did the search here and on IH8MUD.com so save me the lashings.
Basically I am curious if anyone has taken a later model FJ40 STOCK roll bar and put it into a '73 and older FJ40. I have been looking around for a couple of days and I can't find anything that would let me know if this would work or not.
Now I know that the stock roll bar doesn't have the best reputation, but it will work for the application that I am looking at.
Is this going to be a huge endeavor, or is it just going to entail driling some new holes and slapping it in. I have seen and actually owned some older cruisers, I just can't remember exactly what they were like. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance, Thomas

drilled and bolted it right in to my 67. Tops still fit (not that I run the hardtop anymore, but it did fit.)
I think my bar was out of a 74.

I did the same thing, a 76 roll bar into a 68 tub. Had to drill for the mounts and the long jump seats won't fit without mods. I grabbed the short ones at the same time, and had to drill a couple of holes in the top rail to mount them. Specter used to have a relocation kit for the long seats.

yes, you can just drill and bolt it in. However, and I don't know, do the older tubs have the supports built in like those with the stock cage?? I'm not sure I would trust the cage with only sheet metal underneath, but would prefer some additional supports there.

That is what I thought. I imagine that those supports are not there, but making new ones would not be too hard. Would you guys suggest welding the supports to the bottom of the rear fender wells? Or just bolting them in and then then sealing them with silicone or something to keep the tub from rusting? Just curious. Keep the answers coming. Thomas:p

Thats practically what I did...got a later model stock bar and put it in my 69 FJ-40...
I also put a cage in front of that, so the stock bar is really just for a little more added saftey and to retain that LC look...I've heard to not trust the stock bar also, thats why we did not build off of the bar...
Heres a picture too....

thats good to know--i will be switching with my dad (going from cage to bar) the reason being is that it is a daily driver and there is supports, and i want the 3-point belts for on the road (instead of two point)
