I'm debating pulling this thing for my father n law, his is leaking pretty back between the case and the tranny. Is that just gasket sealer?
I pulled my toy tcase many times this can't be much different, just thought I'd post up before diggin in (I got the day off so digging in is in about 10 minutes..)
The local shop wants $300, figured I'd save him a few bucks but if it's gonna take all day..

depending on IF the ZJ has the skidplate or just a crossmember...if its just a crossmember the xfer case should be fully exposed and easily removed..if so you should be able to just remove the rear drive shaft, xfer case shifter linkage and mounting bolts and it should come out with a good yank
you can either pull it onto a floor jack underneath and roll it out...
but it does not have a gasket between the tranny and xfer case...if it's leaking it is most likely the input retainer seal on the case and it's a $4 part :D but somewhat of a pain to install
Is this the NP231 case? Selectrac?
shift pattern would be:
2WD
N

4Lo

242, I am stuck on that top bolt!! What a pain, gonna run down and buy a stubby ratchet 9/16" wrench.
Retainer seal, ok - thanks :)

just drop the trans crossmember with another jack. That will give yah a little more room.

the stubby was the key, and why can't things ever go as planned? Spend half the day driving around for parts etc. I never did get the output seal on, couldn't get the stupid dust cover off. Changed both the output of the tranny and the input of the tcase though, those were the only ones ya gotta drop the case for so I just put it back together after that. Got the tcase real clean so I can see if it still leaks. Oh yea, changed the O ring on the speedometer sender since it looked like it was leaking.
Another day shot :(
oh well :)
