I am running a chevy V8 in my FJ40 and want to use The low mounts for the Power steering pump. I am talking about the bracket that positions the pump to the drivers side of the crankshaft and uses the factory bracket which bolts to the two holes in the block and then comes up&around to attach to the front exhaust manifold bolt.

I have pulled the bib, radiator & fender and it looks like my steering shaft(telescopic borgeson DD, 1 inch dia.) may not clear the pump/bracket. Is this an illusion? How tight is it? Do I have to grind the bracket? I know this is NOT new ground. who is running this set up?

I just want to know if it will fit before I render the truck undrivable by removing the steering box pedestal. I know I could take off the steering box & mock it up with a broom handle but I would rather save the hassle and get an easy answer from a post. I tried the search but my question is too specific for all the results.

I can't answer your question because I doubt that any saginaw box on a cruiser is mounted in the same exact position. You really have a 1" steering shaft? Thats a big ass shaft! Maybe you should consider downsizing to a 3/4" or 5/8" shaft.

In anycase I think the only way you're gonna know if the shaft clears the pump is to just mount it up and then go from there, I'm sure you can make it fit with a little grinding.
