Most likely its the Mazda M5OD-R1 stickshift (it WILL be if its a 4cyl). This is the good transmission. It can fail unexpectedly if the shift rail plugs in the top cover are allowed to leak all the fluid out though. Barring that, they'll go nearly forever with some regular maintenance. Autos are all A4LDs.
