Anyone know of what make/model Dana 44 spindle will allow a 30 spline axle in full float configuration thru it. WARN's kit is pricey and too custom, I know you can get off the shelf GM parts. Is there any difference on inner diameter between years or makes to be aware of? I also know the 79-85 Toy spindles work, but I would rather stay with GM or Ford, that way less trail spare stuff to carry. It will go on a 9 inch BB. In example "Basically is a '77 GM Dana 44 spindle have a bigger ID than a '79 Ford F150 spindle" (note these years are just for example.

going to BTT this... looking for a possible D44 6 bolt spindle that can fit a 30 spline shaft through it without boring it out. If possible.
Maybe a 3/4 ton pickup?

The 19 spl outers are just a hair smaller then the inners. Being full float, you can ditch the bearing. That will gain a little room. Other then that I can't think of any D44 spindle that is larger on the inside.

You really shouldn't ditch the spindle bearing. Yes, it is a full floater, but the stub does not have a solid mount like rear ends. If you ditch the bearing it will probably end up wallering out the clutch rings in your hubs.
But the bearing surface on the stubs is bigger than the shaft itself, and the splines also are bigger in diameter. Best thing to do is get out the dial calipers.

The bearing isn't the problem. The spindle bore actually tappers down as it gets toward the end. As far as I know you have to bore them out. I actually bored mine out quite a bit. My old roomate who did the same thing had to bore his out also. Key thing to remember, get the spindles on as straight as possible. When you put wheight on the housing it will "flex" slightly. My axleshafts will not slide out when the weight is off the housing, but with vehicle weight on it they slide in and out just fine. I would be very interested in the inner warn dimensions if anyone has them????
Honestly, if you are just trying to get a full floater, just buy the warn kit its almost cheaper. Otherwise get a FF60 or 14 bolt or just go semi- float. I guess I will just keep playin with mine cause thats the way I am:rolleyes:, and incorporate a better truss to minimize housing flex.

1. I have a waggy M20, so its not the same crappy CJ7 20. Its just a little less crappy. ;)
2. Warn doesn't make FF kit for the waggie 20 and 6x5.5 bolt pattern
3. If I can use all waggie D44 outers stuff. I'll have common brake parts on all four corners. ;)

fyi a 60 30 spline stub will fit right thru a ford or shevy 44 spindle.

Having never seen one. About how much space is there on the inside between the axle and the spindle inner walls? Is it really close? (Wondering how much space you really need between the spindle ID and the shaft)

very close.
less room than a 35 spline stub has in a 60 spindle.

Here is what I did, I went and got a Toyota spindle from a straight axle front, they are 30 spline. Actually, I got everthing with them, hubs and lockouts and all. I then had a buddy of mine lathe an adapter to mate the Toyota spindle to a Big bearing Ford 9 inch rear, you should see the pics, awesome peice of engineering. Now all you have to do is get the custom length shaft you want and everything is pretty much bolt on. Disk brakes, Toyota 1/4 Aisin Hubs (better than the Warns), and 31 spline axle shaft fits thru with no problems. If anyone needs info, let me know, I had him lathe 2 sets of adapters, if anyone is interested, will sell a set of spindle, rotors, hubs, lockouts, bearings, adapters and all for $300+ shipping. You ad $300 for your custom length 9 inch shafts and you have a full floating 9 inch that you can replace every part right off any parts store shelf.

hey cool ! im not interested in a set, but here's an idea....
Instead of using an adapter to bolt up the parts. would it be easier to machine a new weld on axle flange end ?
no worries of bearing stuff only a spot for a seal (or is that on the toy spindle?)
this would be great for those doing custom width stuff .... acomplish 2 things at once...
just a thought...
