I just wanted to let you guys know that this weekend is the first episode in a series of shows that will chronicle the rebuilding of an 85 FJ60.
Hope you guys like it.
Jason M 02-14-2006, 01:33 PM Cool :D

Or you just gonna copy Denny??? ;)

It will be a backhalfed 60. SOA on the front with Deaver Springs and a shackle reversal and a four link in the rear with coil overs. The truck will keep the original engine, but be converted to EFI, and possibly a doubler kit installed. High steering with ram assist....
That kind of thing

Sounds nut. Give me a few ideas. I'm ready to chop my virgin wagon!
Oh yeah, and Jess can beat on my junk anytime.:grinpimp:
Junkyard 02-14-2006, 04:31 PM Cool! It's about time that us wagon guys get some love.
Only thing better would be an FJ55... :D
greenfox 02-14-2006, 04:45 PM I'm looking forward to this build project. It'll be good to see something other than a Jeep on TV. Keep up the good work!
Guppie 02-14-2006, 05:30 PM Sweet, so when are you going to do an FJ40 build??
:smokin:

Built stock axles? or is Dynatrack going to donate a free set of $10k 1ton axles, & then you guys say how cheap a good fj60 can be built for
I hope not... sound like a cool show for sure & it will be real nice seeing a cruiser being built on TV with some useful tech.
Keep us up to date!

Wow a little harsh? I never put Dynatrac under a vehicle and said it was cheap! Yeah the stock axles will be rebuilt new gears/lockers and shafts.
Hope you guys like the show.

X2
green73 02-14-2006, 09:07 PM Is it in the plans to focus a little on the correct way to rebuild/service the knuckles. Centering the axel, bearing preload, etc... Aftermarket options (shafts, birfs, 6-bolt knuckles etc...) for strengthening the axels short of axel swaps too?
ranger 02-14-2006, 10:00 PM Excellent timing, I'll be sure to watch since I finally get a weekend off.
OnTheSpot 02-15-2006, 12:53 AM I watch the show just about every weekend and really enjoy it. I think making a 60 buggy will be sweet :smokin:
clarkrw3 02-15-2006, 08:52 AM Sweet...I love the show, have it set on the tivo. I keep all the good ones (not full size trucks) for future review ;) You should bring it out to Cruise Moab and do a section on CM06?!?!

Sorry, I thought that might come over as harsh. I wasn't refering to your show, but that show on the discovery channel. I hate when 4x/ Fabrication shows have unlimited $$ and play it off like anyone can put together a really built rig or project for next to nothing as long as they know how to turn a few bolts or strike an arc.
I'm actually looking forward to watching this (first time for a 4x4 show).
Get to it! & if you could post up a show schedule when you know I'm sure we'd all apreciate it :smokin:
texican 02-15-2006, 09:52 AM Having met Jesse last year, and getting to spend quite a bit of time with her, I watch/tape the show every week, and understand there is a certain amount of "stuff" you have to do to pay the bills, it's the first show I enjoy since Shadetree Mechanic .......... those guys kept it real also......sounds very much like my son's build currently goin on.:smokin: :smokin: :smokin: ...http://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=69553
Campy 02-15-2006, 10:03 AM :D
Looking forward to watching the show. My son looks forward to your show. I get the old "Hey dad, come watch this." I second the build an FJ-40. Boy I could see it now, "Dad, grab the camcorder and tape this." Gotta love it though, a 9yr old with good tv skills:laughing:
Deep South Cruisers 02-15-2006, 10:08 AM COOL :cool2:
Glad to see any of the FJ's get air time.
awp_cruiser 02-15-2006, 04:37 PM Ian,
Great show. DVR is lets me watch episodes mid-week so weekends can be spent in the garage. ANY Toyota build is cool, but I would really like to see a 40 build too! Ditch the Cheap Jeep this season and do a Extreme4X40.
On a side note: one of my favorite parts of the mags is the readers rides. You guys ever think of doing a short segment on sent in pictures from watchers?
Thanks,
Andy in Seattle.
cruiseroutfit 02-15-2006, 05:16 PM Cut/Turn in the plans for the front? If your gonna do it... do it... ;)
Ian from Xtreme 02-15-2006, 05:27 PM Cut/Turn in the plans for the front? If your gonna do it... do it... ;)
Cut turn what do you mean? :flipoff2: Just kidding oh yeah cut turn, shackle reversal step by step by step. Hope you guys like it.
Ian
peesalot 02-15-2006, 07:22 PM Nolen keeps that pic in his wallet.
dog walker 02-15-2006, 07:53 PM Am I the only one here that has no idea what any of you are talking about? So it sounds like there is going to be a show on sometime this weekend about building an FJ60 crawler by somone called Ian from Xtreme. I honestly have no clue...

I was the same way one year ago until Jesse showed up at the Roundup. I had met her the previous year in the Black Hills and I knew she was a cool chick.
All my single buddies were flopping around like Trout on the bank when she was in their presence and I knew something was up. Hell I thought she must have been a porn star or something to get them all riled up like they were.
That was when I found out about Extreme 4x4 and that she is a host.
Cool chick, Ian is damn cool and real smart too. Learned a lot this week in the auto tranny build episode.
Never miss a week thanks to TIVO!
texican 02-15-2006, 08:51 PM Am I the only one here that has no idea what any of you are talking about? I honestly have no clue...
Yes........:D :D :D
60seriesguy 02-15-2006, 09:42 PM Never miss a week thanks to TIVO!
Amen to that! I have my DVR set up on auto, then I watch it when the wife and rugrat are asleep. Like fast internet and wireless access, I don't know how I lived without DVR in the past....
Looking forward to that 60 buildup!
Funny you say that, Nolen, because I had the same impression, I saw Jess at the first night's party at the Roundup last year, sorrounded by guys, and I had no clue who she was either....
dog walker 02-15-2006, 09:48 PM Oh, I think I've seen it before. I just rarely watch Spike TV. I'll have to DVR it this weekend though. Thanks for the info!
7FootYeti 02-16-2006, 07:24 PM Can't wait to see it. Wife is taping it for me while I attend the KO9 :flipoff2:
Mace, I'll be thinking about you when it's -20* this weekend.
I've though many times about taking a saw to the wagon.
Jason M 02-16-2006, 07:59 PM Yep it got a bit cold out here.
It was down to 65* as a high :flipoff2:
Still wish I was comin out tho...
Drunk Monkey 02-16-2006, 09:41 PM Have to figure out the record crap.

7FootYeti 02-17-2006, 07:55 AM wishin i had tiime for my sliders and bumpers but dont think its going to happen
Better rethink the sliders. Pretty necessary on a wagon.
fytattoo 02-17-2006, 08:54 AM wish i had time...if i could borrow the time warp camera that extreme uses so i could get all the other work done...i could get them on before i leave but i dont think its going to happen...think of all the crap you could get done in a half an hour using the time warp camreas...hehe...ill be thankful to get it running and tuned in....i cant beleive all the smog crap thats on it....were getting close though...gotta go pick up the header nd intake tonight after work
MT4Runner 02-18-2006, 11:40 AM Cut turn what do you mean? :flipoff2: Just kidding oh yeah cut turn, shackle reversal step by step by step. Hope you guys like it.
Good stuff, Ian! Nice work in explaining all the tech. It must be tough fitting in all the necessary stuff while you have so many ads (a necessary evil).
Looking forward to FJ-60 II and F-Toy II!!
Rat70FJ 02-18-2006, 12:22 PM Watched the show, I was happy to see the cut and turn but you didn't give the audience any specifics on where to set the caster or pinion angle. I realize that the info's all over the web but it seemed like a hole in the tech to me.
ranger 02-18-2006, 01:39 PM I wonder if the PO that did all the custom booty fab on that truck was watching.
muddogbob 02-18-2006, 01:41 PM Good show! Jess is sure getting a lot of air time these days...I wonder why?:smokin:
I'm really looking forward to the next few episodes. Good work Extreme!

I know what you mean, it really is a catch 22 when you offer up firm numbers you are always going to get people who are building something a little different.
texican 02-18-2006, 04:30 PM Dang I got tied up early this AM and did not get loose til after 3..............good thing it's on again tommorrow noon I think.:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Rat you know there are way too many variables....caster can be fairly constant, but pinion angle varies even among the early and late stock 60 drivetrain.......
toy4fun 02-18-2006, 08:04 PM I watch the show every time I get a chance :smokin: today's show was really:cool2: My son walks in to the room and says " now I know why you like this show a hot chick working on a Land Cruises" All I have to say is the show gets better and better :grinpimp: keep up the good work:D
peesalot 02-18-2006, 08:04 PM Butch , get a Tivo for christs sake.
Killerpee 02-19-2006, 12:27 AM So...are those perches on top of the axles really factory like they said in the show..or wer those left over from a previous SO?? I'm not talking about the booty-fab plates, but the spring perches.
smtyblt 02-19-2006, 06:23 AM So...are those perches on top of the axles really factory like they said in the show..or wer those left over from a previous SO?? I'm not talking about the booty-fab plates, but the spring perches.
On the front axle on the 60's and 62's there is a suto perch on top of the axle parrallel to the bottom spring perch that is used for U-bolt retention.
alot of people including myself use this for a SOA spring perch by just plating it, that way you are already line up with factory specs. no measuring.
Rat70FJ 02-19-2006, 04:10 PM Rat you know there are way too many variables....caster can be fairly constant, but pinion angle varies even among the early and late stock 60 drivetrain.......
Yea Butch, I get your point but it just seemed as if some mention should have been made about how to determine where those two items should have been set, even if it just said to do some research.
If you'd quit being a tight ass and get a digital video recorder of some sort, I think you'd see what I meant!! :D
rabid 02-20-2006, 05:24 AM great to see a build up like this that is doable by the home shadetree mechanic. As others have mentioned, I get a little tired of the limitless budget builds on television shows. Very few of us can drop $6-10K on a set of custom axles, or "drop in" a 10K crate 572 or whatever.
I would have liked to see the steering set up, and info on shock mounts, etc, but time only allows so much on a show.
Great job, and thanks for the heads up.
Wish I could find a videographer/editor job like that around here. :cool2:
Big Rich 02-20-2006, 07:10 AM Ian, Cappa just called and said, Your doing it all wrong:laughing:
I need to call you and set up another visit:D
Rich
Flatty 02-20-2006, 01:28 PM Just watched it thanks to TIVO... This was a great start towhat could be a great show. BTW, why is the show only 1/2 hour? Are there any plans to extend the show to an hour?
When you build the rear 4 link, make sure toexplain how you are getting the numbers on the links.
Thanks
Dima
