Ok , i have an 02 explorer sport trac that is my daily driver. Its 2wd and has an open diff. I am looking for something to put in there. I was thinking about an aussie locker. Ive never had a ratchet style locker before. I just dont want to spend a fortune. Is the aussie locker good for a daily?

like i said ive never had a locker like that in a rear end, so does it make racket when it ratchets or what?

I have a Powertrax NoSlip in my DD '92 Explorer. Works great, unless the out side temp drops below freezing. For some reason when its below freezing the locker won't engage AT ALL until the diff warms up and you are worse off than if you were running an open diff since you only have the right rear tire putting power to the ground! I would not recomend any lunch box locker in a 2wd that is opperated in areas that see temps that stay below freezing for any amount of time. If you really think you need a traction controll device save up the money and get either a selectable locker or an Auburn(sp?).

i would like to vote for the aussie also. i was looking at a powertrax, but if you read some of the things that aussielocker posts on here, you can tell they really do cater to the customer. i'm going to save up for the aussie. and i did slravene's locker. easy install. for the price it's a great buy.

I had a regular powertrax in a 2wd pickup, it worked great, a little noisey though.

I just installed a Richmond Powertrax in my 8.8, I love it. No ratcheting off power at all, although you'll notice it back there from time to time (chirping a tire making a turn from a stop sign, for example)

That being said, I don't think people are breaking their Aussies.
