: Tube front ideas
GloNDark 04-02-2002, 11:27 AM After the prision hill show, I am tubing the front of the cruiser. Basically one "hoop" that is the same shape as the hood, and some tube fenders similar to MetalMenders set up.
However I am at a loss on what to do with the front to help re-enforce this design. Here is the pic I came up with for my design so far.
fj40guy 04-02-2002, 11:33 AM Where's the fender?
Since 2F cruisers like to pivot around the nose, I'd go for it.
What size tubing are you thinking of? 1.5" 0.120" wall seems like it should work. With a second "winch protection" bar tied into the front it would reinforce it from folding back on you.

Hey you try drawing a fender in "Paintbrush" ;)
Mustard Dog 04-02-2002, 11:38 AM The front piece is exactly like what the Benders are gonna do for me this weekend(along with a bunch of other stuff) ;) I'm afraid of crushing my radiator in a roll
My prob is in figuring out a good way to tie it down to the front bumper:confused:

BEEN THERE!! DONE THAT!! hahaha Suck to have to go home because of a crushed radiator. :(
Tie it down to the front bumper. That is my problem. And I hate bending good tube only to step back and  :barf: What was I thinking!!

That's why I will let Bender and fatkid do the thinking;) They have a great eye for making clean designs that work, and don't end up lookin like a jungle gym:D

And you say they are doing your this weekend huh?? hmmmm maybe I will wait for the front half and check out what they do with yours. :D:D:D
ckolloff 04-02-2002, 12:05 PM I am thinking of doing something similar. See if you can find a post something like "cage for sale" from about 7-17 days ago from 71RCKCRZR. I bought his headlight hoop( I really like the lines) and plan to do something similar to your drawing. By the way, if you like it, I think he said he could bend one up for like $150. Not sure he would do this and i really don't know him except that I just sent him a money order for his hoop but-His name is Ryan Coelho and hes on the board and in CA- somewhere.
It is a LOOoong way off but .... I will have braces between the headlight hoop and front bar thing(gotta see the pic) I do not think I am ready to do away with fenders entirely but I will have some tubing that follows the cruisers body lines up over the fenders. I think I'll make beefy custom shock hoops to replace the stock towers and tie into the hoops with an additional removable bolt in support that will run shock hoop to shock hoop up over the engine. Rock sliders will take the place of the rocker panels which will be trimmed down. The sliders will tie into the frame. Slider tie-ins will double as muffler supports/hangers and have removable vented skid plates to protect the $$flowmaster$$ cans.
So whatcha think?
I'll be iterested to see what you come up with.

I'm hoping we get to that, right now the work list is as follows....
Tie the cage to the frame
Fix tire swingout
Hi-lift mount
Antanea mount
Ladder for cooler rack so my short wife can get the beers out
Bracket for licence plate and light
Removeable mount for tow bar
Longer shackles
And maybe the grill overider:eek:
We got 48 hours and an ultimate set of tools :smokin:

cruiserrg 04-02-2002, 01:36 PM I've seen that somewhere.

Looks good, if you make the nefs real solid and support the front hoop it should be solid. For more strength you could weld the sheet metal to the bars, also make a engine hoop that bolts to the side bars where the fenders used to be. Maybe a piece angles down where the fender support normaly would be. Just thoughts.

Oh the nerf bars are solid that's for sure. Made out of receiver box tubing  welded to the frame and gusseted. I can high lift one entire side of the truck at a time off those suckas.....:D:D:D
Good idea running a bar across the engine bay though. Maybe something that removes fairly easily for future but will protect it in a roll.....hmmmm:D

2" .120 wall. If it is tubing on my cruiser that is the size. Only one die :(
I would slightly redesign it if I were to do it again. (my first job with the tubing bender)
What you might also think about is recreating the front bezel with 1x2" square tubing. You can get some pretty burly tubing that will stop your radiator from getting crushed...
GloNDark 04-02-2002, 03:34 PM I thought about the square tubing, but the round I got was FREE, so i can't complain too much.
I have about a million ideas of what want to do....now I just have to get off work and go do it!!
COME AWN 5 o'clock!!!

Thats exactly what we want to do, just without the bow-spit off the front. Thanks for posting it.
Freshman 04-02-2002, 06:51 PM Why don't you wait untill your fenders arn't usable. All that tube isn't going to protect the sheet metle that much. On mine I used 1 5/8 tube and put a hoop around the radator under the hood. I also mounted the shocks on the support. Just an idea.:roxy:
Show us some pics Freshman.

Ah dude, I had to take my passenger fender off just to drive it back to the road. Call that usable? ;)
Basically what I am doing here, is turning the front half of my cruiser into a tube buggy, keeping the stock hood and front bib. Simple.
And what's this?? It won't protect it?? you'll see.
