I was just at Advance Auto trying to get a set of 760x u-joints for my '79 F-150, and I couldn't find anything. I tried having them look up the axle joint for a Jeep Rubicon, since thats what they originally came on, to no avail. What is the exact Dana part number for them, and what parts stores carry them? Thanks for any info.

Any Napa or driveline shop should be able to get one.

But it takes less than 2 minutes and a few keystrokes to get one in the mail from Mike..at a better price than any retail outlet..without burning nary a drop of gasoline.:flipoff2:

Seriously..no autoparts store within 3 hours of where I live carries HD Spicer u-joints...or Spicer 'anything else' for that matter.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check napa first, then go online to order some if I have to. What is the exact Spicer P/N on the 760x? (I know theres something more to it than just '760X', but I can't remeber what).

I just walk into carquest, and say "I need a pair of 760's" and they hand me a pair, for about $17 each.

Sure is for 5-760Xs in the red and white box with Spicer written on the outside! EVERYBODY sells 'equivalent' 297/760 u-joints though. I broke more than one 'Brute Force' 760x joint, as one example.

I'm going to have to check Carquest out if they are selling the Spicer's that cheap..sweet deal.

Well..did some checking. My local Carquest can order - but does not stock - what they call their 'gold' joint for the '760X' application. PN is 1-0297G and manufactured by NEAPCO and shipped in a Carquest box. Sounds OK..looks like a decent forged HD joint. But it is NOT a 5-760x Spicer. Being in the parts business myself, it is certainly not unheard of that local franchises stock things that are not part of the franchise distribution chain..but the store in my area don't.

Look in the phonebook for a spice/dana drivetrain specialist shop. I have one locally that stocks preety much everything pretty cheap.

well, our local carquest probably sells a good dozen or more spicer 760's, so I assume that is why they carry them.

The sign of a well-run store. All the mom-pop auto stores around me are dead and gone thanks to vatozone and advance coming to town..and they are not the least bit interested in carrying anything that their 'puter says should not be stocking quantity/brand...:mad3: So we now have OEM stocking deals direct to the brands we need or we buy on internet..which costs us in terms of having to order large quantities and carry inventory...something we could count on several locallly owned stores to do for us when they were still in bidness.

Sorry..I digress..back to regularly scheduled program.

5-760x
If that doesn't work try 5-297X (as this is what they were before the 760 came out.)

Also NAPA is very high on the price. If they are the only place ask them why thier web page list a much lower price, they should lower it then.

edit typo.

I called every auto parts store around and they couldn't get spicer stuff. Most of them acted like it was a horrible desease. I eventually found a driveline place that had them. I think I paid $25-30 a piece.
