: xterra 4wheeling videos
superjens 04-04-2002, 09:37 PM And if you are telling these other 's to come over here, register, and defend the cause, knock that off too.
Nope, didn't ask one single person over here, I didn't even mention this thread anywhere until after other people noticed it.
These people really don't hate you, they just get pissed off when someone comes in here and essentially throws themselves out saying "I can't do jack crap with my rig yet, love me"
Help me out here, who did this? I don't remember asking anybody for love, acceptance, praise or anything. If I wanted love I'd see what's-his-name's mom again. $5 goes a long way with that skank. :p
I had no qualms about showing this video, which is why it's on my own site. I might be dumb enough to argue here but I'm not dumb enough to imagine that it would impress anybody. I shudder every time I see that video, I loathe it (and the person that took it!) But you know what, it's great inspiration to keep learning. I've come a long way since that was shot, and have climbed the same section (and many harder) without hesitation since then.
Some folks here could use a little of BC's finest to help them mellow out :smokin:

That is just fawkin gay, that you are proud that you can get some 60 year old ass for $5. I gotta say this, I don't give a fuck what anyone has to say, I gotta stick up for family, that is just how I was raised I didnt tolerate this kinda shit when I was 10, and I don't intend to now, and besides, my MOM puts up with all my junk at being in the yard while I am at college. So if you want to PM me and have a little discussion on this, lets do it!!! What did I say to you that struck a nerve?? You struck one with me, I wanted to let this shit go along time ago, but you keep pullin me in. WTF????? Personal attacks like that just are:rainbow: I am guilty of that , I know, but the difference is that I am admittedly a jackass, and you claim to be somthin better, so
WELCOME TO MY LEVEL, how's it feel to be provoked by moron????

I just cant stop laughing at that "Mcsoo" jackass!!!
Dude - stop kissing ass!! You got crap all over your face!! You drive a PATHFINDER!!! Isnt that something between an altima and an XTerra. I think you secretly want to be an XTerra owner since you devote so much time to them. These other guys on the board at least are hardcore on their opinions, I gotta respect that - you flip and flap all over yourself trying to be "one of the guys here." You drive a PATHFINDER!!!
I have no respect for any wheeler who thinks body damage means he is a better wheeler. It means you hit crap a lot and obviously cannot drive your wheels!! Maybe when you are old enough to drink you will gain some maturity - until then Id recommend you stick to doing your homework.
Your seriously giving yourself a bad name by registering all over the net and bashing other rigs you know nothing about. Get a life mate and go buy a crowbar to pry your head out of your arse. I aint no newbie to 'wheelin and I can spot a wet-behind-the-ears wanna-be a mile away.
People are tired of your XTerra fetish.
By the way - XOC isnt "The XTerra Board." In fact you will not see many of the four-wheelin' xterra owners on it. If you had an XTerra and had some reason to be on "Xterra OWNERS club" you would know better.... Ian did a smart thing drop-kicking your pathetic butt oughtta there. Itll be fun seeing how many more forums kick you out in the future.
Well, I can see you lot arent interested in the little 'ol X so Ill bugger off for now. See ya when I need some advice on my next Chevy!
:usa:
I'll have you know that I don't kiss any ass. I just suck on ass... Maybe smack it around and dress it up in leather every once and a while.
Why don't you come out to AZ? I'd be glad to show you around. Sure, I have a pathfinder. So? I know it's a POS. But unlike your POS, my POS cost 24 G's less. I'll put another 1 into it and it'll be just as capable as half the rest of the people here. I'll get some pics when I head out this weekend with some guys from here.
When you want to find some rocks, give Mikey a call.. Hell, even I'll post my number here.

schuss 04-04-2002, 11:13 PM my point jens, was that you were showing these videos for some reason. Obviously not for criticism, as you don't seem to take it too well, so what then? I'm all ears.

HiThere 04-05-2002, 09:18 AM Meant to mention this earlier, not that I quite know why I think anyone would care, but that first rolled X became the first locked X, then the first dual-locked X (of only 2 I know of). Some of us are getting a little more serious...
Oh, and is this (http://superjens.com/xterra/gonemoab/wipeouthill.avi) even remotely respectable for an open/LSD manual tranny Xterra? I know you guys could crawl up that without batting an eye, but for an essentially stock X I think it was pretty graceful.
Someone move this crap to Chit-Chat
You people should be disgusted with yourselves - even *I* won;t get into this one (and that should scare all of you  )

withamc 04-05-2002, 10:42 AM  - forgive me, but I just have to...
I have just read this whole thing from beginning to end - I just couldn't stop.
SuperJenny - Go back to the beginning and read the first threads. We were having a chuckle over someone who was obviously inexperienced thinking they were really wheeling, when in fact most of our rigs wouldn't even have been in 4 wheel drive yet. It wasn't until your sarcastic, defensive responses hit the thread that this even got abusive. And then you come into our house and basically call us uneducated morons who are barely able to work in a fast food restaurant. Your sense of self-importance is hard to disguise.
I'm sure if we wandered over to your board, we'd probably find all kinds of snide comments about white trash rednecks with oversized, over-powered testosterone-mobiles. If we even bothered to respond (which we wouldn't), your overly sensitive web-master would strike us from the board and threaten legal action for disturbing the "decorum". How quaint.
Personally, I welcome anyone who wishes to explore the trails in this country in whatever they want to drive. That just adds more numbers to a community that needs all the help it can get to combat trail closures. Am I going to laugh when I see a newbie in an Xterra get stuck in a rut I didn't even notice as I went by? You betcha! And then I'll go pull him out and give him a little advice on how not to get stuck next time. And then laugh some more.
Oh, and how much you make, your level of college education, how much your bike, house or car costs, who you know, who you blow, doesn't mean a damn thing to me. Get over yourself. Your attitude set the tone for this thread. At least WE didn't delete you.
BTW - notice - no profanity. It was really hard.

I see a few probelms
You'd tie up the 2wd dirt access road into and out of the event.
Would you be able to line up enough tow trucks to haul that many rigs out?
How would you manage dust control, don't want the nice cushy interior full of dust
BFG 31" AT sponsorship
Flush toliets, and showers?
Trash management, (all those latte cups)
Make sure the owner or spotter picks up all the broken plastic parts

this thread really is the lamest sheit i have seen in a while.
I think all the newbies should have to spend 2 weeks in Chit Chat getting thier "Pirate Legs" under them. This foo-foo, my "X" has dual latte holders shit has got to go.
And this I only had 25k to spend crap.
I have about 4k invested in a 1-ton '77 that laughs at the crap you were "wheeling" that looked like the front gate to Upper Ranch in Hollister Hills, to be perfectly honest. My truck is a Daily Driver and I wheel it whenever I can. I have to make trade off's but I never have my spotter say "Look out for that rock" its more like "Aim for that rock!"
*sigh* more fawking newbies that can't get it AWN and just don't get it...

81hilux 04-06-2002, 10:55 PM HAHHAHHAHA now that last video is funny :rasta: why not just get a few sacks of pea gravel and fill the crack completely ;p what I liked the best though were the highlift mounting points on the side, as if you need a high lift. bumper jack would be more than enough
I have finally read through this whole thread, and about all I have left to say is :flipoff: to jens. I staarted wheeling back in 93, so I have some experience, definately not the moste around, but I have spent some time on the trail. I have a Degree in Computer Science. I also had a job working for Sun Microsystems, writing code after I graduated. I finally accepted that I was doing the wrong thing and became a mechanic. I worked 10 hour days and went to school for 6 hours after that. I got to see my wife and dogs about an hour total per day for about 18 months while I finished "mechanic school". I did graduate with a 4.0, which I am proud of, and I am now ASE certified in 9 catergories including the infamous L1. And yes, I do work with my hands. I love to work with my hands. It makes me feel good to accomplish something, and see it finished. So please, dont cut down what I chose to do for a living, because you can associate it with someone that fits the mold of what you expect from this BB.
Thanks,

Ryan, I agree with you. I intended those "work with your hands" comments to reflect only on opinion of that guy's apparent intelligence and the degree of difficulty he would have finding any work other than manual labor. I just wanted to poke a stick in his ribs, not everybody who works with their hands. I pointed this out before, that any jabs I made were directed at the posters here in this thread who were trying to "rip me a new one". Not everybody.
I was just fighting fire with fire, some people here can't take it and prefer only one sided arguments and mono-directional flaming. It's just a bulletin board folks, lighten up.
To anybody who works with their hands (you the reader, my dentist, the guys who built my house, engineers, Thomas Edison, Beethoven, neurosurgons, etc), my apologies for that misworded comment.

Oh my god that is the lamest thing I have seen yet!! Last year I took a 2 door Montero with 33 A/T's and limited slip on that trail and had no problem getting across the crack. Who the hell brings tires to go 4-wheeling??????

So what? If you need an SUV-style daily driver, sell the Xterra, buy a 4Runner, and put the money you were putting into payments, into mods. Simple. Here's my DD:

(I've got a psyick fascanation with VW Campers on 31" tires).

TNToy 04-08-2002, 01:31 PM Here's the text of a message I sent to MudPhud via EMail. Perhaps it will help clarify our position on Pirate4x4 better to those who don't fully understand WHY we react like we do...
Message Text Follows:
-------------------------------------------------------
Mr... um, phud?
The reason that the PBB guys have a problem with XTerra owners is quite simple. The Xterra isn't a "bad" vehicle, and is as capable as any other late-model SUV in stock form as far as off-road use is concerned. It's a good general-use four wheeling vehicle. The problem is this:
Pirate4x4 isn't about general use four wheeling. Their users have *ZERO* interest in what you guys do.
Lance started the Pirate4x4 website with the specific goal of catering to everyone who no longer fit in at off-road.com or 4x4wire.com - or any number of a dozen other websites. He wanted to build a site where people who hadn't run an all-terrain tire in 10 years wouldn't have to deal with questions like "how much lift will I need to clear a 32 inch BFG"... but rather, it would be a site for questions like "Does this design for a coilover 4-link suspension look workable, and is the roll-axis suitable?".
And you know what? Lance has done a wonderful job in this regard. His website's BB system currently has over 11,000 members. A subject titled "Pictures of my truck with the bdy cut off, ready for the tube work" and "Here's my front suspension cut off, ready for the solid axle to go in" are the norm - not the exception. It's a place where you'll find many of the competitors of *all* of the different rock-crawling cometitions. 6 out of the 10 people selected to compete in 4 Wheeler's Top Truck Challenge post on PBB.
When you ask this sort of crowd for their opinion on which all-terrain 31" tire is best, there *WILL* be a conflict. When someone asks a newbie question, they are usually informed to either run a search... or go to one of the forums that caters to the less-hardcore crowd.
Most of us who use the PBB regularly find it's attitude refreshing. You can speak your mind as bluntly as you choose, and you don't have to make nice-nice with someone who is being a jerkoff for fear of being banned. You can get into an argument over wether or not samurais suck (which they don't, IMO) without fear of losing access to the site - within reason, of course.
Something else which is frustrating to many of the people on the PBB usually happens when the 'soft-core' crowd starts popping up. They associate body damage with a lack of driving skill - which simply isn't the case. When you are driving up rock gardens which don't look climbable *on foot*... and you are on trails where 2-3 rollovers in a day's outing are exected simply because the trail is a non-stop series of van-sized boulders, you *will* be losing paint to the obstacles. It's simply going to happen when you push you vehicle as hard as you possibly can.
When it's a wide road or a smooth dirt hillclimb, such as the things I've seen posted in the XTerra thread on PBB, thing are a little different than they are for the hardcore rock-crawling crowd. Again, it's simply a matter of focus... A stock Xterra (Or any other vehicle I can think of) cannot traverse the majority of the trails PBB users run regularly.
If you guys had come in with the *exact same* videos - but of a bone stock Jeep CJ, or Toyota pickup, or whatever brand vehicle - you still would have recieved quite a thrashing... because you're right: The XTerra is a good vehicle for what your crowd uses it for. But for what the *average* PBB user wants to do, the Xterra is a joke in stock form, as is any other brand vehicle.
THAT'S why the PBB guys are giving you all such a hard time... they're not interested in your vehicle or your opinion. Now if you want to buy a pair of Dana44s and a set of 36" Swampers, they'll be happy to acommodate your questions about the best ways to get them under that SUV of yours.
It's simply a matter of focus: Pirate4x4 is oriented towards the most EXTREME 4-wheeling found in the U.S. - and you have to admit, those videos which were posted were certainly not of anything which can be considered hardcore.

I think it's the whole size scares people thing :D
Like when you drive @ 15mph past a bunch of yuppies in a ritzy neighborhood and you have big tires and a loud motor, they immediately think speed and violence.
I think it's the same theory w/ those who wheel stockers and are not exposed to built rigs. They saw his 37's coming probably @ 150:1 or so and thought that 0.5mph was violently fast fearing for their lives they rotated, ducked, and covered. Hands over ears, heads between legs potentially kissing each others @$$es...goodbye ;) After the 5 minutes passed that it took chris to go 15 feet past them they stood up and lost track of time but jaws dropped and drool flowed just in time to see chris' double down low 1st gear creep crawling dust as he cleared the obstacle. Rediculously fast toyota! ;) The only thing fast is their ability to accuse :D
McSoo 04-08-2002, 04:03 PM Yeah, Chris' Toyota is a speed machine. That thing belongs on a racetrack. God forbid you might be able to get out of the truck, while it's in gear, check your line, and then get back in and follow up to that line!

grimbo 04-08-2002, 04:55 PM Dr Evil you hit it on the head with your tome. Very well said, no foul language etc which it seems is to be expected of the PBB memebrs by certain members. I must admit as a newbie I copped a bit of flak and my initial reaction was who do they think they are but realised in a sec that it is all part of the BB process, you're new, you cop flak, you grow up, you get over it, you abuse the next newbie. When people start taking things seriously and to heart thats when things go pear shaped. We are worldwide in a recreation that is on the wrong side of political idealism and we need to remain united to protect it.

This is actually the closest you've come to understanding, but sadly you probably don’t realize it. YES..we like to hurl insults and call people names...we do it to one another all the time - we can dish it out, and we can take it, and we enjoy it. It doesn’t make us feel macho, it makes us feel like we share a common bond, it's fun, we truly enjoy verbally beating the piss out of sniveling little morons like you and your pathetic dweeb wheeling buddies. See.... that made me feel good, I am smiling now
:) We don’t care if you don’t like it, we don’t care if it hurts your feelings, we don’t care if you feel it casts us as illiterate, uneducated, or insensitive. WE ARE WHO WE ARE _ WE DO WHAT WE DO, and we don’t give a flying fuck what you think, other than to enjoy your repeated whining as a sort of sport.
And listen to this.... THIS IS NOT real life, it IS NOT the only way we define ourselves, so don’t get all high and mighty, and start accusing people of being childish...WE KNOW, and WE LIKE IT. That doesn't mean we are one-dimensional.... truly, don’t be such a completely narrow-mined moron, you can’t possibly be that fucking stupid.
these are the ones who denigrate the respectability of this forum.
What?? No, they are not. This forum is respected WORLDWIDE for what it is, exactly as it is, not the way you wish it to be. Dear God, this forums’ strength comes from the unbelievable technical knowledge available here, that is available nowhere else on the planet in one place. Coincidentally, exactly NONE of it relates to Nissan Xterras! Hmmmm….
It's one thing to post those videos and make fun of them, but provide helpful criticism. It's another to post them for the sake of making fun of someone else.
I guess we will have to learn to live with the fact that you are so mind-blowingly self centered and ignorant that you will never grasp the fact that nobody here gives a fawk about being helpful to you. Making fun of you, on the other hand, is fine sport, and amuses me endlessly!
Learn to respect your fellow Man.

Entropy 04-10-2002, 01:24 PM Dis is sofa king we todd did.
I like Xterras… I think they are kinda neat looking. If they had a little more power, I might buy one for a daily driver – but for the money I can get a car that goes faster and handles better (errr I should I say “I HAVE a car that…”) right, well anyway…
That comment about the 25000 dollar rig sounds pretty dumb to me. Just for an instance… lets say I want to get a comfortable daily driver that has some pickup and can seat four people comfortably and I want to do a little wheeling with a rig that has potential to be something really cool. Well, for 25000 I could buy a Nissan Altima (3.5SE 5 Spd) for about 22K. That leaves me 3K left over… so now I go buy an ’85 Toy pickup or 4Runner as a play toy and start modding from there. Not only do I have a pretty decent off-road vehicle, but I have a car that will get up and move too. (If you don’t like those cars, substitute them for a Heep and Jetta… whatever).
Or, I could get a Supra in good condition and an 89 Toyota pickup… then I have money left over for a SAS for the truck and a bigger turbo for the car… the possibilities are endless. Even the points mentioned earlier about the E-Locker 4Runner and the Grand Cherokee… although I wouldn’t go that route either because while they are a bit better, it is still paying full price for a 4x4.
Thinking about it as objectively as possible never leads me to the Xterra… unless my wife is nagging me that she wants one. But she drives our Toy to work so that probably isn’t going to happen. Actually, the situation I described above is almost exactly what I went through several years ago… and except for the car (I got a Maxima instead) it is what I came up with. So now I am wheeling, learning, trying to contribute knowledge when I can, and modding as I go all for less than you paid for your Xterra, although with the mods I am approaching that (including the Maxima of course).
What really annoys me though… is that the people on this board laughed and then poked fun a little and the Xterra owners came here and started talking shit. Mainly to the effect of our intelligence and how childish we were.
IF WE ARE THAT FAWKING CHILDISH AND IRRELEVANT… WHY THE FAWK ARE YOU STILL HERE?!?!?!?!?
I mean seriously… why would you go to someone else’s house and tell them what a shithole it was and then keep coming back to argue about it?
This is what really happened here in analogy form… We said “The new neighbors house is gay!” but you heard through the neighborhood rumor mill that we said it. Now you came over to our house and said “Your gay and so is your house, because you called my house gay.” And then we started talking shit again and then you kept coming back over!! Even though you don’t like us or give a shit about our opinions?!?!
On a slightly irrelevant note… I can’t believe I actually read all that, and then made it worse by adding my very own useless drivel… and before anyone else says it, I was serious… I know it is useless drivel, I just don’t give a shit.

IF WE ARE THAT FAWKING CHILDISH AND IRRELEVANT… WHY THE FAWK ARE YOU STILL HERE?!?!?!?!?

johnnyx 04-10-2002, 09:44 PM This is one of the most moronic threads I've read in a long time! But I'll admit, it's funny as heck.
I think damn near everyone here is pissing into the wind...no matter what people post it still ends up being a "my truck is better than your truck" thing. Give it a f'ing rest already...
Lil Uzi 04-10-2002, 10:37 PM McSoo, when you break up your Neesan, than hack it up and try to put a Toy or Dana SAS in or on or whatever, I think you'll find that the frame in front is like, really narrow. Meebee look into it before you finish paying it off and cut it up. Ask nice Pirate like Retard or 666 antichrist or Seabass for advice. You look nice from the rear, though. Nice NEEsan rear axle bulge, I think, at 9-inches + loose, bigger than Joe Isuzu's Corporate 12-bolt at 8.6 inches loose, before arousal. Meebeee read this thread, work it up big likee rice Chop chop and make big Dana 10 1/4 inch for star movie.
Hey forkers. In a bizarre and twisted way we need each other. If xterras, xtraterrestrails, 3 wheelers, whatever, wheel, even 2-inches snow, we wheel, we need to stick together, like treehuggers, get smart, get lawyers, fight Rubicon closure. I don't care where the money comes from................
All you, put up or shut the fAWK up. Trailer queen spank. You aren't jack. Your trail is being closed and your fawking spanking it here.................:rainbow: :rainbow: Beating on Xterras ?Remember, Pirates of the Rubicon ? Its gonna close dumb ass. If your readin this and your from CA, and you haven't joined the El Dorado National Forest CLOSURE fight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, you suck !!!! Don't come here. Don't wheel here. Ya'll from OK and Texas are excused, cause your not from :rainbow: Kalifornia.

Got that worked out. Spring hanger in front. (or shackle hanger. whatever) and weld it directly to the frame to make it act as a crossmember. The one that replaces the IFS crossmember. Then I'll weld in a new crossmember over the rear driveshaft instead of under it. Rear will be switched to leafs. I don't like how the coils ride.
Paying it off? It is... Doors are off, top comes off this week or next. It has to come off before April 30... The girl I'm moving in with has an "Armoir" she has to move to our new Apt as well as a ton of other huhyouge shyt. I want to go full size axles, but it's still a part time daily driver. (My other ride is a minivan!) I'll have Bertha's help. He owes me one after towing his ass all over Sierra Vista! hahaha
Cheers!

paddlenbike 04-12-2002, 02:47 PM I have read about 1/2 of this thread and one thing has become blatantly obvious. I think it was best expressed by Dr. Evil:
"And you know what? Lance has done a wonderful job in this regard. His website's BB system currently has over 11,000 members...When you ask this sort of crowd for their opinion on which all-terrain 31" tire is best, there *WILL* be a conflict. When someone asks a newbie question, they are usually informed to either run a search... or go to one of the forums that caters to the less-hardcore crowd."
Admittedly, I am too :rainbow: to post over here often. I have enough sense to save my IFS-related posts for 4x4wire. I come over here to read and learn about 4x4 tech. Each day I see more and more :rainbow: topics over here--and I understand (and agree with) Lance's goal of protecting the hardcore integrity of this board. I have perhaps one suggestion that might help reduce the :rainbow: crap. Whever a :rainbow: thread is started, reply with a standardized response that says the intent of this board is to discuss hardcore 4x4-tech and anything less should be taken elsewhere. Provide links to off-road.com, 4x4wire, etc and close the thread. I think it would help protect the integrity of the board and I think the people that started the thread will understand.
I don't want to see this board turn JU, if you know what I mean.

Second choice is obviously an XTerra.
Ummm... nope... if you choose the second option you need an Explorer. :flipoff2:

Paul Gagnon 04-26-2002, 10:33 PM I just finished reading this entire thread. It has taken me two hours (I'm not a slow reader, I was following the links too. :p) and I can honestly say that I am sad that the video of the guy getting stuck on a gravel road near Stave Lake is missing. I wanted to watch it again and have a good laugh. Oh well, my friend's band is playing at Studebakers tonight so I've got to get going.
fenix 04-26-2002, 11:54 PM Ok Ok I know this is getting old but my Cat had to chime in on the subject because one of his cat friends did earlier. I told him about the whole issue with Xterra's going offroad and he got a weird look on his face and said one thing .. I captured it in the picture below :flipoff2:

stover 04-27-2002, 04:57 AM So, here I am contributing to a completely meaningless waste of cyberspace. One thing comes to mind, we four wheeler’s are sure a creative bunch. Too bad we didn’t all spend all this time and energy writing letters to keep trails open, instead of spreading meaningless riff-raff about incapable SUV’s and their owners small dicks. Guys, lets get real here, Surprise Canyon is closed, and we have a chance to re-open it. Stop bullshiting and put your collective effort into building a bulletproof plan to get support to open up a trail where x-terra owners wouldn’t dare to drive. This is the problem with us wheelers; we let stupid serria club Falkers distract us from accomplishing shit. Do everyone a favor write something constructive. Leave the soap opera antics for the wanna-be bulletin boards.:flipoff2:

road1will 04-27-2002, 11:46 PM ok, heres what i think about the xterra. it is a good vehicle for light to moderate wheeling and daily driving. with a few mods i think that it could do pretty damn well off road, those being a solid axle swap, and an engine/transmission/transfer case swap. maybe something like a 4.3/700R4/AtlasII? with a solid axle and that setup i dont see how it is any different than a 4runner. in fact, stock i dont see hoe it is any different from a 86-on 4 runner. but everyone loves those? why is the Xterra so gay?
personally, the Xterra is a cool truck, but the VAST majority of the owners are fucking assholes. simple as that.
Dive30 04-28-2002, 05:16 AM Everyone knows that Porsche is coming out with a :rainbow: IFS SUV for those who are burdoned with too much $$ to spend on a regular :rainbow: soccer mom SUV. Did any of you see the promotional video they did to stir up interest in it and to 'prove the capabilities' of Porsche's AWD and traction control systems?
They lifted a 911 Carrera 4 4", put on some ATs and went down some trails that were almost identical to those the Xterras shot their video on (amongst others commuting to the Grand Canyon all 'off-road'). I laughed my arse off when I saw those Xterras on those trails (although whoever produced the videos certainly did a nice job) because all I could see was a $60K sports car toodling by (camera crew in a stock Expedition in tow) like it was no thing. Now (I wish I had the $$) I really have to get a Carrera 4 (cabriolet preferably, for 'open air' wheeling) lift it, cage it, and join that Xterra club!
