: locker question.

im thinking of buying a front 3rd member with a detroit from a 4cyl 8". would the locker be compatable with the rear v6 rear?

ive got the ifs at the moment, but im dooing a SAS.i want to buy the front with 4.56 and detroit from a guy but i dont want the detroit in the front. i want it in the rear

Then you'll have to put the weaker detroited 3rd out back, and the stronger V6 diff you have now will need to be fitted with whatever locker you want, and put up front. You can't take the detroit out of a 4-cylinder diff and put it into a V6 diff. The V6 uses larger bearings, and the flange for the ring gear is slightly offset compared to a 4-cylinder unit (they use different gearsets).

If I were you, I'd get that and put it up front after the SAS, throw a matching gearset and Detroit in back, and put in a twin-stick so you can still cut those sharp turns. That's what I'm doing. (except for it's 5.29s, and a lock-right up front).
