IMPORTANT CALL FOR ACTION!!

On the Saturday evening ABC World News, commentator Bill Redecker did a scathing hit piece on off-road recreation based on events at Glamis.

He called Glamis the most dangerous, illegal, out-of-control place in the world. He said the lawlessness is out of control and talked about thousands of arrests and people being killed and run over all of the time.

He showed a quad running through a fire with the rider catching on fire and talked like this is the normal kind of thing at Glamis.

He showed Daniel Patterson (Center for Biological Diversity) :mad3: on his knee beside a poor milk vetch plant. He showed a beautiful field of yellow flowers in bloom (not in the dunes, of course). He let Patterson tell how off-roaders are totally destroying this wonderful, unique ecological treasure.

He made it clear that Glamis is not safe for decent families to visit.

Here is a sample letter written by Roy Denner:

Mr. Westin - Bill Redecker did a hit piece on the off-road community in California on the Saturday evening World News program that was probably the worst example of unfair, uninformed news reporting that I have ever seen.

I am a grandfather that has been recreating in the Imperial Sand Dunes (Glamis) with four generations of family members for over 40 years without ever being involved in an incident like Redecker would have viewers believe occurs every day. It is true that the off-road community has its bad element - just like every community (including news broadcasters) but to show the bad element and portray it like it is typical is totally irresponsible. Hundreds of thousands of off-roading families in California now are aware of just how much truth ABC world news uses in its broadcasts. Hype is obviously more important to ABC news than truth.

The truth is that the off-road community in California has paid a respected biological firm to do a study of the milk vetch plant and that study shows overwhelmingly that the plant is doing very well in the dunes and should never have been put on the threatened and endangered species list in the first place! We have submitted a petition to the Secretary of the Interior to delist that plant. The Bureau of Land Management has just released a draft of a new management plan that will reopen the areas closed to protect the milk vetch. To allow the chairman of an enviro-extremist organization to give his point of view without taking any input from the off-road community or the BLM - the agency that manages the area - is even more irresponsible and unbelievably one-sided.

I am the Recreation Representative on the BLM's California Desert District Advisory Council and the President & CEO of the Off-Road Business Association (ORBA) (http://www.orbanet.org/) . You can rest assured that I will make sure that the entire off-road community in California, and across the U.S., knows how irresponsible and untruthfull ABC news reporting is!

Someone please refresh our memories on the news organization
that reported fraudlent test results on Chevy pick-ups . It's these
big oil based companies that help fund all the news outlets anyway . Yet they blame us normal , law abiding 4-wheelers who
spend millions on our hobby and try to preserve nature ! I call bull
shit and :mad3: piss on major news programs ! Fawkin' greenies :mad2: sorry for the rant and I should be in chat :flipoff2:

This is normal for Glamis and PIsmo. I love fire pit jumping with a quad! Some times you shoot low and hit the pit, hate when that happens. Is there some kind of law about fire pit jumping now?
