yes i searched

here's the situation:

dual cases w/AA kit and NO speedo cable extension (seems to reach just fine)

i'm not sure if it IS the speedo cable, but i think it may be

when i hammer the gas or let off the gas really quickly at around 50mph+, i get a loud whirring noise. doesn't sound like a crunching/grinding noise, but it's very odd and really freaks me out. also since my speedo started bouncing around at the same time, i drove it without the speedo cable and i THINK the noise went away..i'll drive it on the freeway to work tonight and see if it still does it. if not then i'm stumped.

i took whizzy for a quick drive today and he didn't know what it was either. seems like a bad noise, that's all. anyone got and info about speedo cable problems?

Pull the rear driveline (transfer case side only). Put in 4wd. Tighten the nut holding the flange on to your transfercase. Re-stake the nut and put on the drive shaft.

Also check the plastic gear at the end of the speedo cable... is it munched?

Whats the reason for putting it in 4wd?

If you don't put it in 4wheel there won't be any resistance when you tighten the flange nut.

Resistance when using torque wrench.

This may be totally off base, but I had a car with the same issue and it was related to lube in the speedo cable. Changing to dual cases might have changed the angle enough, I'd say pull the speedo cable at the dash and shoot some lube in there before doing anything drastic.

Not sure what lube to use - something that will migrate down the cable?

This advice is worth every penny you paid for it.
