I just pound out the rubber bushing with a hammer, air saw the metal barrel on the inside from one side to the other (don't cut too deep) then just pry it out with a screwdriver. Takes me all of five minutes.

I've always used a small torch to soften the runner and then cut out outer sleeve like Joopy explains above. Getting a new bushing in can be a might PITA though.

how do you suggest I go about burning out the bushing? (lighter, torch?)

Pick up a propane torch from Home Depot or wherever. While you're there grab a canister or MAPP gas too - you'll wish you had it at some point. :D

i cut across the outer lip of the bushing with a swazall...get a good 1/3-1/4 section cut, take a craftsman screwdriver(so you can return it when the tip snaps off) and pund the cut section into the middle then smack it with a hammer from the other side.....to get it in, i put the bushing in the freezer once its good and cold put the arm on a piece of flat steel, then put another piece on the top side, and smack it with a splitting maul or sledge hammer once or twice and it goes right in......or just cut the whole end of the arm off and weld in a johnny joint:)

I normally dont have problems with them but once when i did i put it on the gas grill with the hamburgers and stuck some foil under it to make clean up easy and she came right out.

And probably made for some tasty burgers too!

I run a large drill bit through the rubber bushing a dozen or so times, then it pounds right out.

this is how i get them out of leaf-springs. should work for you.

i take a utility knife and cut the lip off of both sides. get the steel sleeve out of the center (vice-grip are what i use). i then put a small (3/16 to 1/4) drill bit in my cordless drill and start drilling at the outter edge where the bushing meets the steel. the bit will dig in and then try to go around the outside of the bushing. the bit gets "traction" on the rubber and spins on the steel, and just want to run in-between the two. while its running, put some sort of spray lube on the bit to work it in between the steel and rubber. its kinda hard to explain...but always works for me! matt
